Bobby Brownlie and Bryan Corey Re-Assigned to Minor Leagues

The Cubs reassigned right-handed pitchers Bryan Corey and Bobby Brownlie to minor-league camp. The roster is down to 55 players.

I guess Brownlie didn't look so good after all. Pretty disappointing considering the expectations when the Cubs signed him.

I got to believe that the Cubs are still thinking of Brownlie as a starting pitcher. I am sure thet felt he needed to get some innings to stretch out his arm.

I've never really understood why players are sent to the minors during Spring Training. Is it just so the players who have a shot at the majors get more playing time?

A lot of it is playing time decisions. As the players stay longer and the pitchers throw longer outings, there's going to be fewer innings pitched and played for the other players, so by going to minor league camp they'll get more time on the field.

 

Minor leaguers will still get called back for games some times, but it will get fewer and fewer.

My sim league started when we all thought Brownlie would be great. He has a 69-37 career record for me (how little we knew...)
