Innocent mistake or not. This smacks of homerism.
That's a little extreme, I think. Bad calls happen all the time, and not because of some grand conspiracy. I'm more apt to chalk this one up to natural human fallability than premeditated malice.

I don't disagree. It is just a shame that it happened. The strike zone was all over the place all day and if they cover the bag on Wells bunt, it is on to extra innings.

 

Often perception is reality in these instances.

Japan's fate is still in their hands. It's not like they're out of the tournament. A Japan/US rematch in the Semis would be sweet.

 

Yep. And it was still in their hands after the game remained tied. Japan still had every opportunity to keep the US from scoring and to win it themselves.

 

 

Besides, as everyone else already said here, nobody knows what would've happened on *either* side had the call gone the other way.
