Looks like Hill is still in there. With giving up only 6 hits for 5 runs, I'm guessing he's wild.

I'm on crack. Welly picked a scoreless 4th.

OK. I'm glad that the Cubs have been scoring a decent amount of runs this Spring Training, but when will our wonderful pitching stop giving up more runs than we score?

Too early to worry about that.

The box score shows 6 runs on 4 hits for the Cubs. An error is involved, but that is a good sign that they aren't wasting runners today.

Some of the pitchers have been guys who won't even make the team. The best pitcher is in the WBC right now. And everybody scores a ton of runs in the cactus league.

Yeah, I know. The Cardinals fans at school have me in a bad mood today.

Top 4, 6-5 Cubs.

Hey Beer didn't you used to post on ESPN message board many moons ago. I remember you. I haven't been on those message boards in a while. I got sick of the cubs.com board as well. Too many kids on there that don't know baseball.

That was me but I haven't posted on ESPN in ages. You're right, too many ignorant trolls and people just looking for arguments. I haven't posted since I found NSBB.

Didn't you get traded to the Marlins?

The Cardinals have had a worse spring,

4-1 Angels. Anyone else get the feeling that Hill will never be a realiable starter. I think he's destined to be a lefty specialist.

You do remember that just last year Hill was in Single A? In one year, he went from A ball to the Majors. He dominated at Triple A. It's surely a little early to write him off as a starter based on one start early in Spring Training, wouldn't ya say?

Honestly, I've seen him for two years now and there is nothing besides his cruveball that impress' me. Every pitch besides his curve is average at best. You can't be a major league starter with 1 pitch.

A guy named Barry Zito won a Cy Young with virtually two variations of the same pitch. His fastball is far from special.

The key with Rich is control and location. If he can spot his fastball while maintaining control of his curve he'll be a VERY good pitcher (as eviodenced by his K rates). If he can't, well, his MLB career will be very short (as has been the case with many a pitcher).

When guys like Bryan Corey, Scott Williamson, and Todd Wellemeyer are either traded or sent home. Honestly I think our pitching (for the most part) has done a pretty good job this spring. Although it is/would be disappointing for Hill and Jerome to struggle this spring. At least one of those guys has to be average to slightly above for us this year.

That was me, as part of the Dempster deal. Torborg asked if I was "the kid from single A". Shame on them for publishing the conference call#. Shame on me and everyone else for turning that into a circus. Quality entertainment though.

What does everyone have against Williamson? When he's fully healthy, he is flat-out dominant.

You mean like Wood or Prior? Therein lies the problem.

I don't hear people suggesting that Prior be traded. Wood on the other hand....

I'm I the only one that is tired of the Hill-Zito comparasions? I don't care how good or many K's he has in the minors he hasn't come close to the same results in the big. And let's not forget Hill is 26 years old. He's not a kid anymore.
