4 man rotation needed for 1st 2 weeks so

Z, Prior, Maddux, Will/Rusch. I had no plans for Wood until May when i actually thought Miller would come back quicker than Kerry. I cant see Glendon nailing down a place and i don't think the Cubs are sold on Jwill . So when it all shakes out in May i see

Z

Prior

Mad Dog

Miller

Guzman/Hill

IF and a big IF Kerry can slip in the back end of the rotation all is good if not you have surplus pitching to put in a deal to get a quality number 3 behind Prior and Z. How about Hill+JWill and Walker together with an arm like Brownlie for Zito?

There's no reason to not use April's light scedule as an opportunity to give Z and Prior an extra day off. Especially since Z is pitching in the WBC.

Its definately not a given, but its conceivable Wood could be the 4th or 5th best starter upon his return. Z, Prior, are better straight away, and any one of Maddog (if his conditioning yeilds results), Williams, Hill, and Miller (even Rusch) have the chance to be better. That's a LOT of ifs, but its easily within in the realm of possibility.

From what I've seen, it takes time for Wood to regain his control after he's been on the shelf.

I wouldn't expect much of a contribution until after the All Star break. Same goes for Miller.

As well as to see what Jerome Williams can give the Cubs this year. Give him a shot early in the season against a light hitting team to try to build his confidence.

I hope Guzman is healthy. When healthy, his stuff is electric and can easily fill out the rotation in the absence of Wood and Miller.
