From what I can discern, the only notable potential draftee (out of college) with Boras as an advisor (aside from Hochevar) is Ian Kennedy out of Southern Cal.

However, because of his excellent talent and potential, something tells me he's gone before the Cubs pick.

Edit: Scratch that, U of Arizona SS Jason Donald also is a Boras client. He's a likely first rounder from what I can tell.

It would be nice if one of the UNC pitchers, Stubbs, Scherzer or Kennedy fell to the Cubs at 13, but it doesn't look probable right now.

Don't know much about the HS kids outside the local ones (Tillman, Rapoport, Stoffel, Parmelee).

By the way, a BA projected first round from February had the Cubs taking Georgia Tech 3B Wes Hodges.

Stubbs will be gone top 5, too athletic w/a great skill set not to be drafted early. We'll have to wait and see who his advisor is, it might determine whether or not teams like TB, Col, Pit take a chance on him. If he's there when Seattle is drafting, he won't slide past barring some injury.

Hodges might be there, LaPorta will be there for the teams looking to take a sure thing, even if LaPorta does stick at 1B instead of 3B. Wes Hodges is somewhat of an upgraded version of Murton at 3B, Hodges has a similar work ethic as Murton, nothing overwhelming as far as his tools, but doesn't project to hit for a higher avg. and for more power than Murton while being better defensively at 3B than Murton in the OF. The Cubs appear to have some good luck with the bees minus not drafting Micah Owings.

I like Matt Latos, but he appears to be a Giants type of pick.

LaPorta plays 3b as well? I thought he was strictly C/1B?

Technically, they say he can play 3B, realistically, he'll either be at 1B or maybe a corner OF'er. Most likely, he's going to be a power hitting 1B.

Raisin, Latos 6'6" about 200-205 LBs, has hit 97 on the gun, usually sits in the 92-94 range & can spin a curve. He is still growing, so there is a definite possibility of him adding more velocity, he has good mechanics for someone as young as he is. Many pitchers that tall and that young lack coordination, he's supposedly fluid. He's also good with the bat as well and has played either the OF or 1B and shown power at the plate.

I like Kyle Drabek more, but unless something strange happens, he'll be gone. Drabek has a great curve and of course, being smaller and from Texas with a mid 90s FB and hammer curve, he'll get compared to either his dad or Beckett.

Donald will have to go from a toolsy SS who hasn't produced as expected to the player everyone thought he'd be.

He's gifted, just shown more of it in practice rather than the game. Talentwise, he's not too far below Evan Longoria, just hasn't produced like Evan.

Latos sounds intriguing (I've read a little something about Drabek, Walden and Jeffress too).

What are your thoughts on Chris Tillman?

It might be a reach at 13 for him at this stage, he's skinny, I forget what Sean Marshall was listed at coming of VCU, but I believe it was 6'6" 180, maybe 185. Tillman is right there as well, he tops out at 94 and sits in the low 90s, has a good curve and is smooth and spot his pitches.

Per the OC Register, he topped out at 95 or 96 last week. Let me see if I can find a link.

He's been getting quite some love in the local papers, I was just surprised to see him projected in the first round. He looks thinner than Marshall in the pics I've seen.

Btw, it looks like UCLA will be facing Jason Duncan tomorrow, he's on my Senior watch list.

Also, I expect you to head to Malibu and catch UCLA vs. Pepperdine on Tuesday and let me know what you think of their 2B. :)

Ortiz has one year to go. Even I went to many UK baseball games despite watching them lose to almost every SEC team.

But, I didn't work!

But now I've graduated!!

I'll definitely check out a few games this year.

EDIT: Not sure where my last post went.

They're off to a good start this year, my boy Antone is tearing it up from the leadoff spot.

DeJesus has been very good again, they just play in a very tough SEC East.

Cohen has made great strides since Madison retired. Different strengths though, Cohen good with the hitters, Madison worked well w/Pitchers (Blanton/Webb).

Raisin, no mention of what UCLA did to NCST today? They pounded one of the best pitchers in the ACC. 2 seniors (Smith and Jensen) had very good games offensively and Brummett dominated them on the mound. Very impressive weekend.

Just got in and saw. Winning 13-2, very impressive. And that's a sweep against the Wolfpack! :D

It's time for the Max Scherzer multimedia hour kids! I left Scherzer's start tonight with Mizzou trailing 2-0 after 2 and a half innings(I had already been to the softball game and needed food). Here's some stills of Scherzer from the windup:

Video from the windup and the stretch to follow once it gets uploaded.

You need to talk to him and convince him Scott Boras is the way to go.

A buddy of mine gets press access for Inside Mizzou, I'll have him put the good word in. Seriously though, I'd be intimidated talking to a guy with two different colored eyes.

TT, any update on Max Scherzer? I know he missed his last start with a bicep problem.

Not sure, team's been on the road and I've been busy before break, so I haven't kept up as well. My inside guy said they stopped telling him what was wrong with Max. However, he did interview him for Inside Mizzou, so Scherzer is still alive.
