A simulated game brought home reality for Troy Percival, who announced Sunday that he's ending his comeback attempt.

The Tigers reliever stopped just shy of calling his retirement final, saying that he wants to see if his arm feels any better in a couple of weeks, but admitted that he has "probably" thrown his last pitch.

It appears that Percival is calling it a career.

I guess it is a good thing we didn't sign him last year.

i was pretty glad when he signed with detroit, neglecting to even visit chicago before making a decision. something like this was bound to happen - i feel bad for the guy, but i'm glad it didn't happen while he was in a cubs uniform.

I'm not gonna lie, I wanted us to stay as far away from him as possible (along with the rest of the closers that were on the FA market last year).

I was one of the fools who thought JoBo was going to be lights out in the 9th last season (for us).

I didn't want to overpay for mediocre pitchers. Although, I shouldn't act all high and mighty. I wanted us to trade for Kolb. :)

I wanted them to look at Benitez and try to get him at or near his previous year's salary. But I really wish they would have been on the same page as an organization and actually stuck with Dempster in the closer role from the beginning.

Wanna know why this post doesn't have many responses? Because everybody is too busy praying that nobody remembers them begging for Hendry to be fired for not signing Percival (among others who flopped after signing ridiculously large contracts.

Because the title doesn't make sense?

He was very good for a while, too bad he caught the injury bug and could never shake it.

Total and complete truth.

Hendry was getting his feet put in the fire for not getting a good closer last season and then ALL of them went down with injuries, and surprisingly, you don't here much about that anymore. And I'm sure whomever has a defensive response to this statement was one of those blaming Hendry for not getting a closer.

I do wish Dempster had been the closer all year though, but that's not up to Hendry to determine the lineups, that's on Dusty.

A lot of people who are harshest on Hendry had no desire to see him go after Troy. In fact, the media, which keeps referring to all the heat Hendry took for not getting a real closer while talking about Troy's injury, were the ones most passionately arguing that they should have gone hard after Troy.

There was a lot of relief on this board when Percival signed prior to visiting the Cubs.

Quit trying to instigate fights with these ridiculous accusations.

Whatever. There was no accusations. Why am I not surprised that you were the one who became defensive about this?

You are accusing people of ripping on Hendry for not signing Percival, then not having the balls to comment on this topic now that he's gone.

I don't know and don't care why you were not surprised. Your motives were clear and they were immature.
