so, prior was hospitalized in december and this is the first we are hearing about it?

A trip to the ER doesn't equal being hospitalized.

So like if the guy has a vasectomy or something is he supposed to alert the media?

If you were waiting in an Emergency room and Marky Mark crawled through the door looking like he's about to croak.........wouldn't you, like, tell someone maybe?

That must've been one deserted ER.

How many people are going to know Mark Prior in some random SoCal ER?

I think it's more ridiculous that a 2 week illness in December would have him missing time in April. What kinds of throwing drills would he have been doing 2 months before ST, and how signifigant could they possibly be?

I'm starting to think that the Cubs have no idea how to handle professional athletes. It's either overly cautious or waaay too reckless.

It's just the media doing their normal making something out of nothing. Sensationalism is their profession.

No, not all of the media's.

About 95% of it (or more)...

Nothing like irresponsible, wild generalizations.

Yeah, 95% is a ridiculous figure.

90%? Maybe more? He's pretty tough to miss, and that's his home territory.

Exactly. Last offseason we heard all about how Hendry tore his ACL, I can't imagine how one of the most recognizable players on the team going to the hospital near his home wasn't picked up by somebody.

I'd guess closer to 20%. And the percentage of people who'd leak that to the Chicago media would be much, much, much smaller.

And even if it made it to a reporter, I'm not sure how many would print medical information like that without the player's consent. If they did, I'd imagine that they could kiss talking to Prior goodbye.

I think 5% would be generous.

The media? With a conscience? That's a new one. You may be giving them a bit too much credit.

As for people in the emergency room of a so cal hospital: if any of the staff leaked it, their job is finished and they may face legal action. Nothing is stopping someone from calling KTLA and saying 'I saw Mark Prior in the emergency room today' though.

I think the percentage of folks in So Cal who know Mark Prior is a little higher than you think.

Of course I don't think KTLA would care.

Someone might call, but an LA TV station wouldn't care and I really doubt SD would too. I think some of you are overemphasizing what Southern California media would care about Mark Prior.

They wouldn't care because the LA TV stations would be too busy with the high speed police chase on the freeway. :P
