Hey, I sent a letter to Muskat last week, and she wrote back which was nice. I was surprised to see she printed it in the mailbag though. Anyways, I'm Brent E. from Bloomington. When she wrote back I was showing it to some buddies that thought she really avoided the question of how Neifi saved the Cubs. Yeah, had to cash in on my 5 seconds of fame.

I was wondering who it was, I was going to be really surprised if someone not from here called her out on the "Neifi saved the Cubs" saga.

Just imagine where they would have been without a guy who gave them competence at shortstop after Garciaparra went down. In other words, Perez wasn't the worst of the Cubs' problems.

You know, I could have sworn that sounded like an NSBB'r. Looks like I was right!

Good work son.

I'm glad she finally answered one. I have sent at least a half dozen over the past couple of months calling her out, and I haven't seen one of mine posted yet.

She's responded to me through the e-mail but I've never made the mailbag. She's also never agreed to my request for a Q & A.

Perhaps she's familiar with the site... :D

You could be on to something.

I don't know... I get the feeling she doesn't do a lot of reading when it comes to baseball.

Personally, I don't have a problem with her saying Neifi's (few) finer points, I just think she should have backed up her statement or just admitted it to be a bit, oh, preposterous.

Maybe she doesn't want the "electronic" pie in the face. Cause she is a clown.

If Carrie Muskat has any brains at all, and I suspect she does, she is well-aware that her rebuttal was a sliver above ludicrous. I also suspect that Carrie originally put in those "saved the Cubs" comments tongue in cheek, but she's gotten so much grief about it that she had to say something. And a mere beat writer doesn't say, "Yes, the GM was an idiot to give a 2-year/$2 mil deal to a glorified second-string SS" - at least, not if she wants to keep her job as a beat writer.

It's a living. Steve Stone couldn't even stay in this organization for calling out the manager and the front office, and Carrie doesn't have the following Stoney did.

Bottom line, though, it's her own fault for trying to be cute. You need to pick your battles, but it's not wise to create needless ones in the first place.
