It appears the Reds are close to naming Jim Beattie their new GM.

The Cincinnati Reds are likely to name Jim Beattie as their new general manager this week, the Dayton Daily News reported Wednesday.

An announcement is expected in the coming days, two sources close to the situation told the newspaper.

Ok...looks like the earlier report was wrong, as the Reds have now named Krivsky to be the next GM.

Cincinnati Reds chief executive officer Bob Castellini today announced Wayne Krivsky as the club's general manager. Krivsky signed a 2-year contract through the 2007 season with two 1-year mutual options.

Castellini will introduce Krivsky at a 6:00 p.m. ET press conference tonight in the field level interview room at Great American Ball Park.

Good move by Cincy naming Krivsky the GM, he's waited for quite some time and should do a good job building that team from the btm up.

Obviously, the payroll will make it more difficult.

Krivsky has already begun shaking things up, firing assistant GM Brad Kullman today.

Link.

While no one really knows what this means, I think it is an indication that Krivsky is planning on shaking things up.

It means we can look forward to seeing KENT MERCKER and ADAM DUNN in Cubs uniforms soon. That would shake things up, no?
