Unfortunately the pristine-ness of the outfield wall will soon be defaced with billboards, but such is the view of any minor league park

I hope that Gene Stocker and Edgar Snyder get some ad space!

oh i'm sure they will. Snyder's got big billboards on I-99 now

i once saw Edgar Snyder eating at the Rax (now Wendy's) on 322 in Ebensburg.

Personally, I think he should buy the naming rights to the field. Edgar Snyder Field. Has a nice ring.

Or "Never a Fee Unless We Get Money For You" Field.

Or "Have You Been in an Auto Accident?" Field.

I'm curious who the cardinals are predicted to be taking in the mock drafts (as the Spikes roster will be almost entirely June draftees)

Ticket office called today to let me know that my stadium tour is set for next Saturday. Sweet.

I'm very happy to announce that my State College Spikes will not be renewing their player development contract with the Cardinals and will likely affiliate with the Pirates next season. I can feel much better about myself as a fan now

Will Pitt be keeping Altoona as well?

yes, so the Pittsburgh Short-A and AA teams will be just 42 miles apart. They are both owned by the same owners group

I assume that's a deliberate attempt to get more central PA residents emotionally invested in the Pirates young players, who are going to continually account for a significant portion of the roster.

yes, and give them two chances to watch their progress in person. I'm excited because, despite the old Short-A Pittsburgh affiliate (Williamsport) sucking this year, they have won the NYPL twice in the past 5 years. Might get a better team. Plus, the Pirates are far less aggressive about player promotion, meaning we're more likely to see next year's top draft picks stay in State College all summer, whereas any good player on the team last year shot right up to Quad Cities

The ballpark cant be more than 5 miles outside the Knoxville city limits!!
:?: State Park is nowhere near Knoxville. State Park is in Pennsylvania; Knoxville is in Tennessee.

And it's State College, not State Park, but who's keeping score?

While my friend and I were waiting to gain entance to Beaver Stadium for the football game today, we decided to go across the street and check out the baseball stadium first hand. I must say, it is pretty darn nice. I'm gonna have to go check out a Spikes game this season.

Okay, this was one of those "you know you're old when" moments today.

The Pirates announced their coaching staff for the Spikes today.

Manager: Turner Ward

Pitching Coach: Wilson Alvarez

Hitting Coach: Mike Moriarty

You've been watching sports for awhile when all the players you remember are suddenly in their 40's and coaching.

I didn't know Wilson Alvarez had retired.
