if hendry wants to sign pierre to a multiyear deal, and jones has a 3-year deal and murton is ours for the foreseeable future, where does pie fit in? suppose he comes out of the gate strong, do you leave him in the minors for the hell of it?

what about FAs next season? is jones, pierre, murton our OF for the next 2/3 years or would we move any of the three in the right deal?

is jones really going to give us $5M+ more production in RF than corey would have? i think he has to hit .290 with 90 RBIs for that to be the case...thoughts?

Probably the same thing to Murton they did to him when Hairston came back this year. This time they might be nice enough to sit him on the bench for the time being because the other guys have experience.

I don't understand comparing Jones to Patterson and using money as a qualifier.

Is Jones adequacy at $5 million worth more than Patterson's absolutely horrid play at a lesser figure?

Who cares anyway?

Jones is an upgrade from Patterson and it is not my money being spent.

All I read about is people complaining that we have money to spend but do not spend it. Now we spend it and we'd prefer they go on the cheap.

I don't get it!

Before I get jumped on, I would have preferred Giles from the beginning or a trade for a bigger bopper. That said, I see Hendry signing a top quality fourth outfielder. (Boy, will that start the "Dusty will never play Murton" talk or what?) I also see an upgrade at a middle infield position, if not both of them. Tejada & Vidro anyone?

I liken this Jacque Jones deal to the one Terrence Long received. Once that deal was signed, there was no going back. From that point forward, no team wanted anything to do with him and the team that had him was basically stuck with him unless they could figure out a creative way to add him in to a trade.

The A's forced San Diego to take him in a trade that sent Ramon Hernandez for Mark Kotsay.

San Diego couldn't deal with him, so they traded him along with Dennis Tankersley and a significant amount of cash for Ryan Bukvich and Darrell May.

Speaking of Terrence, couldn't we have just signed him to a 1 year deal? They're practically identical players.

I know the Cubs have lost their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks for 2006 so do these signings hurt the future as well as the present? These middle relief guys better be lights out along with Jones playing decent baseball.
