if I'm not mistaken, he left in a huff before because the Cubs wouldn't give hime the number of years he wanted. he actually took less in $/year to get the extra year or two out of Boston.

with that kind of negotiating history with the Cubs, and him asking for three years, I don't see any kind of deal being struck.

incidentally, Bill Mueller at one time was a young player that the manager of the Giants allowed to play.

...Bill Mueller? Although RF certainly seems to (and should) be their top priority, he'd make a great fit at second base. His range isn't as good as it once was, but he's got an outstanding glove and should be vastly superior to Neifi offensively. We've already seen him play in a Cubs uniform once, when his grit and determination was something to be desired.

Although definately not someone you'd want to get in a bidding war for, or someone who you wouldn't want to give more than two years to(prefarably one), he should definately be of interest to this franchise. If the price is right, the Cubs could shore up there infield, allthewhile avoiding giving away valuable prospects. This would allow Hendry to focus his resources solely on (if he isn't alreay) RF, and would make Walker (again, if this is what teams are looking for) more ependable.

This is what I was thinking, and I am curious to your thoughts and opinions on this.

Rotoworldsays that he could be close to signing with the Pirates.

The Pirates could be closing in on a three-year, $13.5 million contract with Bill Mueller.

"It looks like something is going to happen soon," a source close to the negotiations told the Beaver County Times. "I'd say it will happen this week and it's looking pretty good for the Pirates." Dec. 13 - 2:36 pm et

That's just great. Pittsburgh is about one more pitching acquisition away from competing with the Cubs for 4th place assuming they get Mueller.

Dammm, I'm pretty negative when it comes to the Cubs, but don't get depressed about Pittsburgh signing Bill Mueller.
