Well, sure, but Texas might consider that not quite equitable. That's why the Patterson-for-Nix exchange might even it up.

I'm just basing this on what has been written about Nix in the papers but he seems to have the same hard-headedness problem that Corey does. That put him in Showalter's doghouse pretty quick. Much like Corey he looks to have all the ability in the world and he's a great glove guy but he looks clueless at the plate and the impression is he wants to do things his way.

Do you think that Hollandsworth was too tired from all of the starts he got?

Plain and simple, TH is finished. I have never seen such a complete collapse from a fundamentally sound player like TH did in 2005.

Ask Hollandsworth if he wanted to start or be the "4th OF/1st bat off the bench" that you fantasize him to be. I am sure that he would say starter. Or do you think he'd say, "I hope they don't misuse me. I am only a part-time player, at best. All those starts are going to make me so tired I won't be able to hit my way out of a paper bag."

Blame Dusty all you want, but there is absolutely no reasonable explanation for Hollandsworth's 2005 other than that his career is over.

I don't buy that at all. When role players with limited skill sets play too often, their flaws are exposed and they look bad. Todd in 05 wasn't that much worse than Todd in 03, or 95-98. Give him 200 at bats over the course of a full season (as opposed to 2 months), and I think he's capable of getting reasonably close to his career line of .275 .332 .440. Guys have down years in their 30s like Todd had all the time, and often bounce back to a reasonable level.

no other reasonable explanation, are you joking? he's a bench player who was misused by his manager, how about that explanation?

would he have said he'd rather be starting? of course, but so would lenny harris, jose macias, and neifi perez. do you honestly think there are players who would rather sit on the bench than play everyday?

it's the manager's job to decide who starts and who comes off the bench, and dusty continues to fail miserbaly at it.

If we get BWilk, I don't want Huff. He's not good enough to justify blocking Murton.

The concept of "not blocking Murton" is one I want to avoid. If you put Murton out there and he flops, you're looking at 400+ John Mabry plate appearances.

Can we please be a deep team? Maybe just try it once?

Join. Except Huff isn't exactly atop my wish list. If BWilk is in the fold, I'm still going after Bradley, Floyd, Mench, maybe RonDL before Huff. Of course, if taking Huff makes it easier to get Lugo....

Agreed. I'd rather do Corey and Jerome for BWilk, let them keep Nix and save the extra spot on the 40 man roster.

edit: That is, rather than take Nix. Obviously, I'd like to get someone of value to the team for CPatt, if possible.

Yep, sometimes you have to rob Peter to pay Paul. I still feel comfortable that there are some decent choices still out there.

How long ago was it that TB wanted too much in return for Huff?

Back when LaMar was still GM.
