Why would the Cubs do a Nix for Patterson trade?

I think that's just speculation by the writer. No way the Cubs would want Nix.

I'm sure you're right Willi....it just doesn't make any sense.

I wonder what pitchers the Rangers want from the Cubs for Wilkerson?

If we get BWilk, I don't want Huff. He's not good enough to justify blocking Murton.

The concept of "not blocking Murton" is one I want to avoid. If you put Murton out there and he flops, you're looking at 400+ John Mabry plate appearances.

Can we please be a deep team? Maybe just try it once?

I'd rather have Wilkerson and Rondell.

I could go for that. If we get Huff and he doesn't rebound from last year, he'll stay out there. I don't think Dusty would give Rondell significant starts over Murton as long as Murton isn't absolutely imploding. If Dusty does decide to play Rondell everyday, it won't be long before he hits teh DL.

Why overpay with prospects for subpar talent.....Huff Wilkerson kearns

We have our own subpar talent in Patterson, Put him in rightfield

or Sign J.Jones or P.Wilson....I know people don't like these guys but it has to be better than trading away our chips on marginal talent

There's a difference between "blocking Murton" and "400 PA of Mabry otherwise." Mabry is not going to be the 4th OF and he is not going to be a starter in any sense. It's not like we're going to have Aubrey Huff in a box so that when Murton fails we throw him into LF instead. Huff and Wilkerson means no Murton but Murton and Wilkerson doesn't mean Mabry starts. Mabry right now is primarily to backup 3B. Get a steady RF (Wilkerson fits this) and get a solid bench-bat 4th OF and Murton starts and you're covered. You don't go selling everything you have for BOTH Huff and Wilkerson. Besides, we'd then have only one RH outfielder option? Edited by wilk

I'd love to see them bring Holla back for that, if only we had a manager with a clue that would use him as the 4th OF/1st bat off of the bench like he's best suited for.

It really sucks that if we want Wilkerson now, we have to go through a GM that seems to have a good idea what he's doing.

That does throw a wrench into it doesn't it?

I'm glad the Yankees don't have a lot left at the lower levels so this might keep them out of it since both Wilkerson and Bradley can play CF..

Not me. The Cubs already have Mabry and that's as close to Holla as I want to be.

Wilkerson, Huff, and Lugo, please.

If that did happen, expect Murton to be the 4th OF.

with Dusty managing, i expect murton to be the 4th OF regardless

i would hardly compare three players with career OPS's of around .820 to corey patterson, nor would i call them "marginal talent".

marginal talent is jacque jones.

I consider Huff/Kearns/J.Jones/(at least) /Wilkersonb to be no better than Burnitz...Why would we make a trade for these types of players when J.Jones or Wilson can be had without giving people up....and I still think CPatt might turn it around....Although it probably won't be in a cubs uni

But it's entirely possible the Rangers want him to be part of the deal though.

Well, sure, but Texas might consider that not quite equitable. That's why the Patterson-for-Nix exchange might even it up.
