I just saw the Mets non-tendered Miguel Cairo. Am I alone here? I think this guy is the best bench player in the bigs. He does everything he's asked, does it well, and can always be counted on in a pinch. With Macias gone, let's get this guy back! Who's with me?!

What is it exactly that Miguel Cairo brings that Jerry Hairston doesn't?

Better bat, attitude, and no injuries!

What's better about his bat? It's made of ash, while Hairston's is made of balsa wood?

what exactly do you mean, attitude?

Hairston mopes about playing time. Cairo is always smiling.

so was bobby bonilla, i don't know how cairo's attitude imroves the team.

can we stop beating the chemistry horse now? i'm just wondering because it seems like we had a bunch of happy losers on this team last year, and they weren't likeable anyway.

why do you care if players are smiling?

I won't speak for StMarks, but I like a happy team whenever possible. When I am happy, I am more productive; it makes sense that this would be the case for ball players as well.

But being a Marxist, I guess happiness isn't one of your priorities...

Smiling is not a reliable indicator of happiness.

It is, however, a reliable indicator of derangement.

Guess I am crazy b/c I enjoy laughing.

All science and no philosophy makes you an unhappy boy.

Personally, I think StMarks is correct in that Cairo is more fundamentally sound than many, including Hairston, we had on the team last year. He (or Vizcaino as another poster mentioned) would be a solid bench addition from that standpoint. It just depends on the moves made from here on. If we trade off Walker, it would open a slot for which either one of these guys would be an excellent fit. Let's just say that if we are in a tight game late next season, I'd rather see iether of these guys up trying to advance the runner or get one in from 3rd with 1 out than many other options.

But, Sulleymon is right in that our perceived attitude should not be a major factor - if the team wins EVERYONE has a good attitude. You gotta be winning first.

So, third time's a charm?

The Cubs have already had Miguel Cairo they didn't seem to like him.

We lost him the first time because Wood refused to go on the DL and we had to try and outright him to the minors for a roster spot...and at the same time, lost him and Gary Matthews, Jr.

Interesting, I didn't know that.

And if I remember correctly Wood still ended up going to the DL.
