How about using 2 of our "untouchables", Pie and Hill, and talk to the Marlins about Cabrera. They have already said that Cabrera and Willis are available. I'm a firm believer in keeping Pie, but a deal for Cabrera would change my mind. Pie, Hill, Guzman, plus ? for Cabrera and right field is set for the next 12 years. He's not a left handed bat, but we can make some exceptions.

If we can get Cabrera (or Willis back) for Pie and Hill, plus however many B level prospects as it takes, I would do it in a heartbeat. We know how FL feels about Pie (they like him), I don't know how high they are on Hill though.

One other thing...

A rumor floated around the Winter Meetings late Monday night that Dontrelle Willis and Miguel Cabrera could also be shopped, speculating that Willis might be available for the right price. But after hearing this, a high-ranking Marlins source strongly said that neither Willis nor Cabrera were available.

Willis, Cabrera staying: A high-ranking Marlins source denied a Newsday report that said Florida was shopping pitcher Dontrelle Willis and third baseman Miguel Cabrera.

I wish we could get both Cabrera and Willis. But who knows what the Marlins would want for them? The top prospects, Walker, Wood and Prior and Zambrano might get it done. LOL!

Throw in Prior then you might be on to something.

I really don't think FL is interested in Prior. A) he makes more than the league minimum, and b) by the time these young guys grow up and make an impact, they might have lost him to FA by that time.

Actually I agree - I wouldn't trade Miggy for Prior, Hill and Pie.

I know that fans have a way of overvaluing thier own players, but if you're in contention AND building for the future, I think you'd be foolish to pass on that deal.

I think if they were looking for pitchers like Prior, they wouldn't be offering Willis. They are obviously trying to go younger and, more importantly, cheaper.

If I ever find out that the Marlins had offered Cabrera for Pie and Hill (or any package of prospects) and Hendry turned it down..........

And I'm higher on those two than most.

Well, I'm not that high on Pie. Hill is nice. Prior is a stud but considering money and age Miggy is just flat out has better value. Plus I prefer position player young studs over pitchers because of durability.

I am not sure even Prior and some prospects would get it done. Plus why wouldn't you do it? You get the Cubs top prospects, Prior and a decent salary for a year or two and then you ship him out for more top prospects or young major league talent at the time these other prospects are getting to the major leagues.

First off, I think Prior is great. I would trade Carp for him straight up if the Cubs offered. But considering age, money and production I think you could argue Miggy is the most valuable player in baseball.

At a risk of sounding like a troll the Cubs top prospects aren't really that great. They are good but I think Pie only ranks in the top 30 in baseball.

In terms of production age, and money, I think Felix Hernandez has probably taken over that spot. Or will atleast next season.

Young pitching scares me injury wise, please read here and here.
