  1. Rotoworld: Nationals GM Jim Bowden said the newly acquired Wily Mo Pena will platoon with Ryan Church in left field. That doesn't make much sense. It should be obvious to everyone by now that Pena needs more at-bats to succeed, and he's just not going to be very useful while starting twice per week. The Nationals were all set to play Church in center to make room for Alex Escobar before Escobar's setback. Why wouldn't they do the same thing with Pena, a player with quite a bit more upside? Maybe it will happen if Pena gets off to a good start.
  2. I wouldn't call the Soriano contract brilliant. He was bidding against himself. Nobody would have given Soriano 8 years, probably not even 7.
  3. Levine said the same thing actually. He said Selig got involved and got permission from all parties. Levine also said he thinks Z is 28 and not 26.
  4. You say this as if it's a good thing, but given the Cubs ineptitude in identifying talent in previous years, I'm not willing to give them and their scouts the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure their scouts know more than us I bet I could do just as good a job of never developing a good position player. I'm sure you could. Eventually, the Cubs will have to get it right..right? Sure, they've sucked at developing offensive talent in the past, but that's the past, let's see how things work out in the future.
  5. You say this as if it's a good thing, but given the Cubs ineptitude in identifying talent in previous years, I'm not willing to give them and their scouts the benefit of the doubt. I'm sure their scouts know more than us, and that said, they do have a new scout than from previous years.
  6. People criticize Hendry because the only thing that counts is the team's record and then there's an article listing the top GMs and it doesn't include Schuerholz. Just goes to prove that it depends on who is doing the rating. As for Hendry, he could trade for Arod, Cabrera, and Santana during the off season and some posters would complain because we had to give up 3 good prospects to get them. Hyperbole.
  7. Vitters was almost taken #2 overall by the Royals, there was some talk that we got lucky getting him at #3 due to Moustakas rising on the charts. I think in the Cubs eyes they drafted the best player left on the board and to them it was Vitters. If the Cubs scouts and Hendry really wanted Wieters he probably would have been drafted by us.
  8. CUBS WIN!!! You got love Santo man. "Alright YES!!"
  9. Pujols against Current CUbs via ESPN: 12HR 28RBI .283AVG .381OBP .511SLG
  10. It's just you. I remember quite a few times he's hit homers against us or had rbi's when needed.
  11. hahaha comedy at its finest What's so funny? Why would anyone expect Lee to be as good as Pujols? Pujols is a once in a lifetime player. Pujols is at another level but it would be ncie to see Lee hit at least 25 homers..CUBS LEAD!!
  12. And that's what all-star 1st basemen do..
  13. So much for that. Instead, we will end up with Craig Monroe.
  14. What do you think about Kenny Williams spending 108 million? Williams has a much better track record than Hendry, but he did not put together a good club for this year. I think White Sox fandom is pretty sour on Williams' work this year, and rightfully so. The WS win bought him a little time, but 2 non-playoff years in a row has dried up Kenny's reserve of goodwill. As did the Minor league system under his watch. Eh, Gio Gonzalez is pretty good. Last year, the White Sox had 90 wins. That's pretty damn good, unfortunately for them, they were also in the best division in baseball. This year has been bad though for them and Ken.
  15. I'll deny it. It's not like that was a pre-ordained 100 game winner. It was highly flawed, as evidenced by the continually weak offense predicated on contact and the ignorance of the value of a walk. Amazing? Please. It was set up to be pretty good. Maybe not amazing just because that's such a strong word, but he did put together exactly what we always complain about him not doing. He put a team together that was a 95 win team on paper, and even if things go wrong, they should still win the wild card. That team was great. What killed me about 2004 was he didn't go out and get the closer when Borowski got hurt. Of course Dusty had a fault in it as well because that stubborn ass didn't even try other pitchers in the closer role when everyone and their mother knew Hawkins couldn't handle it. Hendry should have made a move, even if it cost us a lot. Waiting until the waivers to pick up Jose Mesa just wasn't good enough for me.
  16. Two posts in and already it starts. Personally, I was expecting it to be the first post. Let's step it up a bit people. Step it up? While its a hyperbole (he wont be COMPLTELY useless, and will be more like 1/7th of the payroll), the long term considerations of Sorianos contract is absolutely a reasonable concern. I said ALMOST completely useless. Truth is, we don't know if it will be 1/5 or 1/7. That remains to be seen, especially with a possible new owner on board. The fact is the Soriano contract was terrible and it's going to bite this organization in the ass soon enough.
  17. Why call him up so early? Was he signed to a major league contract when drafted?
  18. One thing I give props to Hendry is not letting our good players go away through free agency, he resigns them. Sure, he signs the mediocre ones to crappy deals but at least he has signed Lee, ARam(twice) and now Z before they could get away.
  19. hell no! We would be better off without him. Let's see how you praise him in 6 years when Soriano is almost completely useless and making 1/5 of the payroll.
  20. I doubt they would give him this much and sign him to an extension if he was.
  21. If Kroeger goes on a hot streak again I wouldn't mind seeing him play RF for a bit over Fox
