  1. Just heard as well.. Yes!! Nice knowing ya Holla. You were pretty worthless for us this year.
  2. Even though that would make Dusty look like a fool, I would not like him to get hurt even more.
  3. That would be funny if he ends up being a quality ML pitcher and Hendry ends up looking like a genius. Considering the trade for Bartosh, I doubt it.
  4. Let's not forget about the Chad Fox debacle.
  5. How many times did Walker leadoff for us this year? Exactly. So are you coming down on Hendry for bringing in the wrong guys, or coming down on Baker for using them "incorrectly"? Obviously Walker hasnt been used as a leadoff hitter because Dusty didnt find that as an option. But how exactly do we know if Walker is a good leadoff hitter for us if we never used him in that role?

  7. And this is why Stone will never be a major league GM. As was mentioned, Cedeno is a SS, and his value is as a SS. That means you would be giving Furcal shortstop-type money to play 2B. There's really no point in overpaying for less production. I don't believe Stone suggested moving Furcal to 2B. It seems like something was lost in the translation. The idea is Furcal at SS and Cedeno at 2B. That's exactly what he said but he mentioned something about Cedeno moving from 2b to SS in the fall league which made no sense to me. I just wanted to post Stone's comments for everyone to read.
  8. I can't believe that Dusty is still the manager of the Chicago Cubs. he should be dropped like a bad habit.
  9. Looked good on paper? Maybe in 2004.
  10. Do you mean from SS to 2B? Because he's always been a SS in the minors. I dont know why he said that but thats what he said. It made no sense to me either.
  11. That might be the nature of the beast but so far we have been unsuccessful in upgrading those holes. With FA, Trades, and Minor league available it shouldn't take that long to fix those problems, especially with a 100mil payroll. That is my opinion.
  12. What Stone just suggested on the Score. If indeed Walker is traded sign Furcal to play SS and move Cedeno to 2B. He mentioned that they moved him from 2B to SS in the fall league.
  13. Since 2003 it always seems to me that we look forward to the offseason with the same holes every year. Seriously, it really feels like every year we are looking for a leadoff man, bullpen help, and looking to improve the bench. This offseason is no different. Maybe Hendry just doesn't get it, and that just scares me.
  14. If you don't spend the money on Furcal, what free agent do you spend it on? The Cubs have a ton of money to shell out this offseason. They can afford him and still pick up a pitcher or OF bat. They can also trade for an OF or pitcher but probably not a shortstop. play cedeno and walker, and then take that money and sign giles or whatever and then trade for two more outfielders too. im not particularly enamored with any outfielders on the roster/in the system. if pie's on the team, i will cry. I would like to see Murton at one of the corners. We need to get rid of Corey, enough is enough. Sign Giles if possible which means we would need another CF. Do we have any other options aside from Damon? Hasn't Murton been playing a little CF in AAA? Would this indicate that, if he plays well, the Cubs are thinking of having him play CF next year and moving Hairston to 2nd? Thus CPatt and Walker both not being on the team next year? Ideally we would want him to play CF. If he can play it effectively we would be good at CF because as far as I'm concerned Corey has no future here.
  15. Too bad we have regressed from 2003 for various reasons.

  17. Good points. I agree that Furcal shouldnt be our #1 priority. We have so many holes right now that it would be crazy to fix the SS problem first. I personally would like to see us trade for a good OF if possible. Our OF stinks right now and if we dont get that fixed 2006 might be another "wait til next year" season.
  18. I'm so sick of Baker. he is talking like he is guaranteed a job for next year which is scary. I will even pay for his coach class ticket to get him back to SF if Hendry fires him.
  19. First of all signing Furcal is not contigent on Walker being here or not IMO. I would like to have both of them and would put Furcal at the top of the order. When you are down by 1 run and you have Furcal at first you have the option to steal 2nd. You do not have that option with Walker. At least successfully you don't.
  20. ok. whos going to leadoff for the Cubs next season? A bonafied leadoff hitter in Furcal, is what the Cubs NEED. Todd Walker is a better leadoff hitter than Furcal. That's debatable.
  21. AJ Burnett? Now we are talking. I am not a fan of Millwood and maybe it's best for him to stay in the AL. He was bad last year with the Phillies and ok the year prior to that. Pay the extra 2-4 mil and grab Burnett. He's good.
  22. I've mentioned this before but when Barrett was catching the Expos they had one of the best ERAs in MLB and that was the same year Vazquez had his breakout year.
  23. I will tell you this though. By not having Hairston and Walker here next year at 2B that jus opens up another hole we have to fill during the offseason. We have no option in the minors that can play 2b either. Makes no sense that we would get rid of both Hairston and Walker.
  24. Dont shut them down but put them on a strict pitch count.
  25. I think if a GM spends $8MM on a position player and get under .350 OBP or under .750 OPS, he's a fool. I'd rather spend $8MM+ on a left fielder who can post an .850+ OPS. I really don't think a .340 OBP or .746 OPS is rare enough to spend big bucks and call it an upgrade. I guarantee somebody will pay Furcal 8mil and I dont think they will be fools. I am a big fan of Furcal. He is a good defensive SS with a cannon arm and most importanly is the type of player that makes things happen. He will still bases and be a true leadoff hitter. IMO, it would be 8mil well spent, but considering we have Cedeno as a future SS I would prefer to see us upgrade our abysmal OF first then worry about the rest.
