  1. You'll hardly notice the Red Sox bias from him....... I was just jumping on to say the same thing. Could he be rooting for the Red Sox any more? Good lord. And ESPN in general is really skewing this telecast towards Boston. The mid game highlight package was "Chicago lead early, blah, blah but look at these Boston HOMERS! WOW! Oh, and they are losing again, but HOW ABOUT MANNY AND PAPI?" And thats why I'm so sick of hearing about the Red Sox and Pats.
  2. I'm rooting for the WSox to eliminate the RSox. Actually, Out of all the teams left I would like to see the WSox win it. Chi-town baby!
  3. Garcia is a very inconsistent pitcher.
  4. I've listened to enough former pitchers BS about their past so much not to take their theories seriously. I don't doubt that pitchers think about the runner more. And I don't doubt that people think it has an affect. What I do doubt is that there is a substantial affect on the at-bats, over time. Just like the theory that Furcal is worth more than Walker because he can score from first more often, I'm sure there are specific cases where it's helped a batter to have a speedy guy on base in front of them. But I do not know that there is a substantial affect. And neither do you, no matter who told you what. Substantial....I don't know but it does have an effect. It has a huge effect at my level and it has to at the highest level...not at the same effect, but an impact. I also think the more the pressure the situation the more the effect. Plus...I've been agreeing with you all day and I just can't accept doing that. 2004 playoffs Red Sox vs Yankees. Dave Roberts on base Rivera pitching. need I say more? C;early, having a burner on base does make a difference in the game.
  5. That would be great but can he play the OF? Would he want to? Does he have the arm to? Not everybody can play every position.
  6. Dempster moving into the pen and becoming the closer for him was the best move for his career IMO. He really only had 1 good year as a starter.
  7. Right now they are discussing a multi year contract for the multi purposed Macias. What worries me is who Hendry confides in....Hughes. This and Baker may make any good move difficult. These guys still live in the 70's. Please tell me your'e kidding, Cuse. I just heard the same thing on ESPN Radio... :)
  8. She mentioned somethign about that when I first met her so probably. The stipulations are that I would have to join though :)
  9. So the Sox are "us" to you? That's like giving Bea Arthur mouth-to-mouth. Us=Chicago.
  10. If we indeed have our first orund pick intact after FA, it wouldnt surprise me to see us draft another pitcher yet again.
  11. I was happy to see the Red Sox win the WS last year but in general, I have had it with Boston sports PERIOD! I'm sick of hearing about the Pats and Red Sox to the point where I'm starting to see why it was a good thing for them not to win it for so long. Bottom line is the most pathetic sports teams are in Chicago and it's time for us to get a couple of championships in all sports which includes Cubs,Bears,WSox, BHawks, and Bulls. I'm sick of the losing and I'm def sick of hearing about Boston teams.
  12. On ESPN Radio they mentioned that the tigers have extended a mulit-year offer to Rothschild and also mentioned something along the lines that the Cubs will not be offering more than 1 year. Sounds like he is a goner to me.
  13. I still cant believe the Mets gave up Kazmir for V Zambrano.
  14. So we have about 1.5 to 2 months before things get interesting.
  15. I'm pretty sure Crawford signed a long-term deal last year that will keep him there for a long time. EDIT: Crawford's contract: 2005: $500,000 (plus $500,000 signing bonus) 2006: $2.5 mil. 2007: $4.0 mil. 2008: $5.25 mil. 2009: $8.25 mil. (club option, $2.5 mil. buyout) 2010: $10.00 mil. (club option, $1.25 mil. buyout)
  16. Is the winter meeting in December?
  17. I was a little more into it last year becaus eof the RSox and Yanks series but other than that if the Cubs arent in it who cares.
  18. And every year since 2003 the team has gotten worse. Hendry is very savvy. EDIT: In terms of post season and record. Prior & Wood were healthy in 2003. Most teams couldn't withstand their #1 and #2 going down two years in a row. Oh for the love of all things good and decent. Injuries are not the reason the Cubs have not gotten better. Agreed. Hendry did a poor job of assembling this team and it doesnt help that we have a moron for a manager.
  19. anybody know? EDIT: How about trading as well?
  20. And what in Hendry's track record leads you to that conclusion? Letting Alou walk and trading Sammy for peanuts with Dubios and Hollandsworth waiting in the wings? He had to way overbid Pittsburg for the stellar services of Jeromy Burnitz a few weeks before ST. Or was it his masterful job of trading Farnsworth for nothing and Juan Cruz for Andy Pratt? Or perhaps it was his leaving a young enigmatic left handed reliver open to be a rule 5 draft pick. The Sosa trade was a wash. I didn't like the Burnitz signing like most, but it seems most were content w/ the DuBois/Holla platoon in LF. As I recall, most were content w/ the opening day lineup w/ the exception of RF. If Patterson & DuBois come through, the OF would have been alright. When Hendry took over in mid-2002, the offense consisted of 2 aging outfielders, some overhyped prospects, and nothing else. He's added 2 all stars. Signed Walker. Traded for Barrett and got Nomar. Things could be a lot worse, if not for Hendry's savvy moves. Hendry's savvy moves or lack thereof more like it. Things are bad right now.
  21. Not Gomes, but maybe Huff. Huff is terrible. I would have taken him over the mess we had in LF in May, but I wouldn't take him on this team in 2006. There are better options for the OF, most notably in house. I'd bet that Murton puts up better numbers than Huff next year. I got $10 on that bet. You don't think Murton could put up these stats given 400-500 AB's? G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB BA OBP SLG 154 575 70 150 26 2 22 92 8 .261 .321 .428 at 1/10 of the cost? Without giving up prospects? I believe that Murton can put up similar numbers to Huff, but I think at the end Huff would edge him by a bit. That's why I would take the bet :) I would not want Huff to replace Murton though, but would take him to replace Burnitz. I would take Giles over Huff only if it meant a 2-3 year deal though because of his age. As far as I'm concerned Murton is a lock to start for us in LF next year, but with Baker I have seen stranger things happen. Huff had a bad year this year and even worse towards the end.
