  1. Where did Hermida come from? And who is better ... Hermida or Bradley? Hermida can actually play for us and not just sit on the DL . . . so Hermida. Teach me about Hermida, I feel like I'm missing something. He had a great year in 07, his first full year, but was pretty awful last year. His slugging and OBP took a big hit. Was there a reason for that, or are we just hoping to buy low and hope he returns to form? he's only 25 he's had major league success he's getting out of dolphins stadium he has awesome minor league numbers i think he's a great buy-low option If we as fans know all these things I'm sure Florida and other GMs know this too. I don't think Hermida is a buy low candidate. I bet you the asking price is very high for him especially now that they moved some other pieces. The White Sox got Carlos Quentin from the DBacks for a minor league first baseman. Teams lose faith in young players quite often. Hermida won't come cheap. If he did he already would have been traded. I'm not saying cheap, but Pie and Marshall should get it done for him - that's not a cheap offer. Atkins or Cedeno might be enough in place of Marshall, as well. I think Pie and Marshall for Hermida would be a good deal for both sides.

  4. Getting Peavy is nice but is it really a good idea to get rid of DeRosa? He's been one of our most consistent players. I would like to see upgrades to this offense not have it downgraded by losing such a good piece in DeRo.
  5. Giving Lowe a 4 year deal is a mistake and that doesn't factor the money he's asking for. Glad we're not doing something stupid like that.
  6. There's no justifying it. If we could have had Wood on a 1 yr deal it was a no brainer to keep him. Especially considering we gave up Ceda and Gregg is going to make over 4mil.
  7. According to Levine on the radio it looks as though the Padres are willing to take Marquis instead of Marshall if the Cubs eat half of his salary. Supposedly, a Padres scout was asking Levine how Marquis was in the clubhouse and away from the team.
  8. Considering we are stacked at SP I'd rather sign Bradley than acquire Peavy if it came down to a choice between the two.
  9. I'm sorry to do this to you guys, :D) So this is the trade according to OH: Cubs get Peavy from SD Orioles get Pie, Marquis + 4 million cash from CHI Phillies get Derosa from CHI SD gets Hill, Vitters, Cedeno from CHI, Olson form Bal, Happ from PHI It's nice that we get Peavy but why are we making our offense weaker?
  10. Am I the only one confused by this quote? Bradley will come cheaper than his talent level would suggest because of his injury and temper tantrum baggage. Bradley is going to be cheaper than Ibanez? That's what people are suspecting.
  11. Jesse Rogers on the Score hinted that the Cubs could be in intense negotiations with Bradley and Ibanez but Bradley makes more sense financially due to the baggage he brings.
  12. Getting Bradley would be such a good upgrade to the offense.
  13. I think it was Jenkins who said that in front of the camera and Eyre told him not to say that or something to that effect.
  14. Cabrera isn't coming back, is he? Touche. So Lillibridge and Ramirez up the middle then? Fields might be the 3B
  15. I think what it comes down to is Greene will be an upgrade for the Cardinals over Izturcrap.
  16. Wouldn't Roberts be 33 to 34 when hes available through free agency? If so, not exactly the age to sign that type of guy for a 3 to 4 yr deal.
  17. I never understood why Wuertz was never used by Lou. I'm not saying Wuertz is perfect but he was a quality reliever for us in the past and even though he had his moments where he was sucking for us I still feel Lou could have used him better and got a lot more out of him.
  18. Grats to Len. I think both guys are doing a great job for the Cubs.
  19. So it's all just a big, flukey coincidence that he's pitched so above-averagishly on the road and awesomely at home. That always hasn't been the case though. There have been 2-3 years where Peavy pitched very well on the road. Kinda hard to get a good gauge on what to expect from him if he were to be traded to the Cubs.
  20. It definitely sounds like it or else it would have been done already IMO. They are probably looking for one more starting pitcher that they feel is a fit for them in the future and apparently they don't feel Marshall is the guy for that and frankly, I'm surprised about that.
