  1. I think he's pretty much guarantee'd it with his sub 2.0 ERA in his last 8 starts. . Agreed. He's been damn good.
  2. And the Panthers lost their starting LT for the season. This could be pretty bad for them.
  3. OMG did you guys see that!!
  4. I wish I could say the same for those Cubs.
  5. Other than that, no mention of the Bears, of Grossman, of the defense, anything. Only quick mentions of how bad the Packers are. We outright dominated the Packers but I have to agree with him. The Packers look to be a VERY bad team. I would like to see us play a team from a different division to be honest but there is no question our offense is much improved over Orton and company from last year. I criticized Angelo for his draft picks but he's making me look like a fool right now. Hester looks to be the real deal and D.Manning had a INT. One way or another I just want my team to win :)
  6. I don't doubt that the Lions are an improved team but if I was a Seahawks fan I would be totally concerned about the offensive line.
  7. I hate waiting for the 3 PM game!
  8. No inconsistency whatsoever. I wouldn't have signed him at all, but, if you're going to sign a rehabbing pitcher, there has to be some upside to the signing. Having signed Miller for 2006 gives the Cubs exactly ZERO advantage over the 29 other teams going into the '06-'07 offseason. Where's the upside? Miller will resign with the Cubs, if that's what Hendry wants. He's not getting a multi-year deal from anyone. We can give an incentive laden 1 year deal just like anyone else and we're in his good graces for signing him at 1M. It's not like organizations are lining up to take risks on players. Hendry doesn't mind the several million dollar gamble on a starting pitcher. I don't either considering their worth to a ballclub. Maybe Hendry did mess up. The future will tell. But, don't rag on Miller for being "toast" when he's still rehabbing. I can't think of a player who wasn't mediocre when rehabbing from a semi-serious surgery. So he doesn't have his velocity back. Big whoop. It'll come back or it won't. I'd be fine with the cubs spending several million bucks to find out. We spent how many millions on the likes of Neifi Perez and Glendon Rusch? At least Miller has a high upside. Will he reach it? Maybe. Maybe not. Let's find out. Be patient. Big whoop? I would like to see a WS championship some time this century. It's time for a fully qualified GM to take over. Just curious, what was your big whoop about? That you wouldn't want to give Miller an extremly incentive latent deal to be our #5? I would, especially if he shows decent progress the rest of the way. If he doesn't, then no. I wouldn't sign him period. I didn't like the fact that we signed him when we did because I felt he could not recover to make a difference for us. He rested his shoulder and signed with the Red Sox and it didn't work too well. Then when the rest didn't work (which sounds like what Wood is doing now) He decided to have surgery. I personally believe he will provide us with no help.

  10. Don't worry folks, Dempster's streak is still entact.
  11. Elaborate, plz. Some ditz plowed a newborn's head into the railing while chasing a foul ball. Same thing happened at Wrigley not too long ago. This guy was holding a kid in the bleachers, a homer was hit and you can see the guy smash his kids head onto somebody else as he is trying to get the ball. Ridiculous.
  12. If Baker is back next year which is highly unlikely at this point, I imagine a big riot outside of Clark/Addison
  13. Howard may be catching up to Pujols offensively, but he still isn't the better player. Pujols is actually a good defensive first baseman while Howard is pretty shabby. The difference in fielding runs alone between the two is worth a couple of wins. Pujols totally deserves the award more than Howard, gaudy homerun totals aside. Then Pujols should win the Gold Glove at first. But as for MVP, Howard deserves the award, if for nothing else, after trading Abreu he has taking his game to another level. I would like to see where Pujols numbers would have been had he not been injuried, but the fact remains, Howard SHOULD be the MVP. I'm not so sure. I'll have to check the numbers again, and will do so tomorrow or Monday, but the last time I checked, Pujols still held the lead in runs created and win shares. While Howard has been hot recently, Pujols was consistently good throughout the entire season. Howard has the glamor power numbers, but Pujols overall numbers are better. Howard may overtake him, but he still has a way to go. and Vance, we know that voters will often look at the glamour over the consistancy. That's the reason, why I give Howard the advantage. Now, if and when Howard reached 60 HRs, to me Howard locks up the MVP award. How can you NOT give a guy who leads the majors in HRs with a possible 60 or more HRs, to a guy who finished around the 44-48 range. I mean, both Pujols and Howard should be MVP, but my guess the voters, are going to go with the glamour power of Howard over the consistancy of Pujols. Just a hunch. HR's aside, Howard is leading the league in RBI too.
  14. The man deserves it. [petty Cubs fan] Anything to keep a Cardinal from winning an award [/petty Cubs fan] Nah, Pujols is the man but I believe Howard has done enough this year to overtake him.
  15. The man deserves it.
  16. 2 called strike Ks in a row with 3 pitches? Curve?
  17. Don't be ridiculous. Miller will be excellent in his appearances the remainder of this year and Buffet Boy will sign him to a three-year, $24 million deal. "Obviously, we're tickled to have Wade in the fold. He's a warrior who has worked hard to get himself back in pitching shape. His record speaks for itself. Plus, he brought me a big block of cheese." Miller will then proceed to make us long for the days of Shawn Estes. Corrected..
  18. Then turned around and gave near 7 million in combined contracts to Neifi and Rusch. Is Furcal overpaid yes. But he could have overpaid for Furcal and locked up the leadoff position for a few years, and kept 2 good arms. Instead he took the money he saved on Furcal and flushed it down the toilet. Now it appears they are going try to re-sign Pierre who will command a contract near that of Furcal plus they will need to spend money on another starter for the rotation. If they still had Nolasco he could have filled this roll at a bargain price. Hendry only thinks 1 move at a time. He would lose to a 2nd grader in a game of chess. We now also have to deal with Izturis' contract as well. If we didn't have Izturis, we'd still have Neifi. I'm not so sure about that. Hendry found a fool in the Tigers GM to acquire Neifi and his bad contract off our hands. If the Tigers weren't desperate we might have both right now.
  19. And just to add, here are Furcal's numbers for the year right now... .292AVG, .362OBP, 9HR, 53RBI, 94R, 33SB. Pierre: .289AVG, .333OBP, 2HR, 34RBI, 71R, 49SB.
