  1. Come on Hendry make me happy get Church here.
  2. If indeed a deal doesn't get done it should be the end of the posting process IMO.
  3. he fell apart last year He had a busted knee, IIRC. boy, now his shoulder, elbow AND knee were hurt last year. No wonder he was so bad! http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061018&content_id=1716524&vkey=news_tb&fext=.jsp&c_id=tb
  4. yeah, I don't know any GM who is batting 1.000 on his deals. Everyone has a few dogs if they hang around long enough. Williams has his share, but they are eclipsed by his more recent succeses, IMO. Agreed.
  5. The odds of him putting up numbers like he did last season are very small, and the cost of acquiring him would be very high. He put those numbers up in half a season. How could he not match them again? You could argue that he could nearly double them in a complete season, could you not??? Sorry, I look at rate stats. I have a hard time believing he's going to sustain a .533 slugging percentage. That's a .097 jump from the season before, which is pretty huge for a CF. Although, he's getting significantly worse covering CF, so maybe he's packed on the muscle... I'm not sure. He'll get better than he was in 05, I'm fairly certain. I just don't believe his jump last season was indicative of a real progression, and I'd rather not pay an outrageous price for him based on that. I'm not a Baldelli hater, by any means. I think he's a solid player... I just don't think he's as good as advertised... which means he wont be worth the cost. I think Baldelli is going to be a good one. He missed all of 2005 due to a torn ACL so maybe that has something to do with his fielding too. He's fairly young and hasn't played that much. I think he has a lot of upside but I just don't know if the Cubs have anything to offer to get him from the DRays.
  6. I don't want Penny. Seeing him pitch to me he didn't seem anything special and I was shocked to see him do so well in the first half of the season. His numbers post all-star: 80IP 12HR 26BB 66K 6.25 ERA 1.60WHIP .317BAA. Those are terrible numbers. He did lose velocity last year after he was injured back in 2005(biceps injury) I would pass.
  7. Injured shoulder. EDIT: Had surgery during the offseason.
  8. Considering Mabry got 1mil from us lats year getting Ward for about the same sounds good to me. This is a good bench signing.
  9. QFT. People forget that Marquis was a serviceable 4th/5th starter in 2004 and 2005 because he couldn't get anyone out in 2006. Maybe he'll suck just as badly, but if Rothschild can get him straightened out, or if he can straighten himself out, he'd probably be a bargain. I have a hard time thinking Rothschild can straighten anybody out..
  10. no, please keep that door closed I felt just like that about Suppan but some pointed out his numbers and he wasn't that bad. Post all-star last year he had a 2.5ish era.
  11. Agreed. Anybody but Marquis damn it.
  12. Unknown Righty Power Hitter Ward Blanco Theriot Pagan. We can't have ANY injuries. We'd be okay if Izturis got hurt... I don't wish upon injuries to players but...
  13. There's nothing to like about signing Marquis. Go after Suppan then, he is a much better option than Jason make me puke Marquis.
  14. I'm going to lose it if we end up with Marquis, he sucks! This is ridiculous please for the sake of all Cubs fans NO!! Z Lilly Hill Marquis Prior/Miller/Marshall/Guzman This should be fun. Suppan over Marquis. Marquis is a project, we don't have time for project acquisitions right now. This is really terrible new if we end up with Marquis.
  15. I'm going to lose it if we end up with Marquis, he sucks! This is ridiculous please for the sake of all Cubs fans NO!!
  16. So... now what? Sign Zito or overpay for a starter. Williams will gave it to us hard by trading Garland to the Astros. We could have made a run at Garland, then again I'm sure the Sox fan would be steamed.
  17. No love lost if he signs with the Royals. If we could trade for Westbrook now I would be ecstatic.
  18. This is a real head scratcher considering Garland was their best pitcher down the stretch last year. To me it sounds like the Sox are looking to make a move for a frontline pitcher.
  19. For the sake of his health Hendry really does need to go on a diet. Sometimes a scare like this is what it takes to get the person focused on the more important things in life such as to live.
  20. I like this move for the Cubs. I think he's going to be pretty good off the bench for us.
  21. Izturis of course. I already hate the guy.
  22. Good or bad, Hendry takes his job seriously.
  23. We needed a starter and we got one. Here's hoping that he does good for us.
  24. I'm happy but nothing would make me happier than to see Izturis gone (although highly unlikely).
