    Closers

Saves are overrated. There's no real sense in looking for a guy who's gonna kill you in lots of categories, but help you in one. If you can get a guy like Lidge, K-Rod, Rivera, Cordero, Street, Wagner (the elite ends there) in a REASONABLE round (5-7) the risk is fine, but don't get caught up in a run on closers where you're picking a guy who sucks in WHIP, ERA, and other peripheral stats just because he can "close" and get you saves.
  3. Irrelevant considering I'm not on a Sox board posting almost exclusively about the Cubs (I'd probably be banned), though to answer your question, winning the WS was kinda nice for them.
  4. I'm just curious, do the Sox ever do any wrong in your eyes?
  5. Florida's getting a head start by losing to a pretty mediocre Bama team on the road. I'd wager that Florida is the first of their seed to be eliminated.
  6. I'd keep Young regardless of whether he makes in TB at all this season (Unless this is the third year of his contract for your league). Young has incredible potential, and while the rest of these guys are almost assured starting spots this year, none have the potential that delmon has.
  7. I love my team considering I drafted at the end of the round: C: Mauer 1B: Helton 2B: Utley SS: F. Lopez 3B: Wright OF: Dunn OF: Francoeur OF: Baldelli Util: Beltre BN: Taveras BN: Ellis BN: BJ Upton BN: Shawn Green SP: Halladay SP: Felix Hernandez RP: Guardado RP: Reitsma P: Lowe P: Millwood P: Cain P: Liriano On the surface, the P could look kinda weak, but the highest ERA was Liriano at almost 6 (which is really strange given a 1.1 WHIP, small sample, but yea) and the next lowest was Reitsma sub 4. Highest WHIP was 1.23 for Reitsma.
  8. Any ideas for parameters for a keeper league? Problem with a message board is if people become dormant on the board losing interest in the league, etc. I would propose a 5 year league with three keepers a year...
  9. Holy cow, that's a lot of DL potential.
  10. Very interested!
  11. There's no poles that I know of in the UD Box. If you're in UD Reserved, there are some poles.
  12. I might be the lucky one. No money whatsoever for tickets. I will probably get to a few games despite my desire to boycott. Always get some good tickets day of game.
  13. Couldn't he nullify that by placing Juan Uribe second in the order? .327 is his high OBP. Unless he just wants hiim to bunt scotty pods over all the time.
  14. Just did a 12 man 5x5 Roto draft and drafted last. Here's the team, round by round: Wright Utley Halladay Helton Felix Hernandez Dunn Mauer Felipe Lopez Guardado Franceour Cain Tavares Beltre Millwood Reitsma Shawn Green Liriano Mark Ellis Baldelli Derek Lowe BJ Upton
  15. Hadn't seen this posted anywhere, but from Seth Davis today:
  16. The guys on BBB.net seemed to think that Ben might call his dunk the Question Mark, and that the Dore thing was a joke because right after he said that there was laughter. Who names their dunks anymore? This isn't like wrestling where all finishing moves need some silly name attached to them. At least Red didn't call it "The Dagger"
  17. Great win on national TV in ugly uniforms.
  18. I wouldn't want either one on my fantasy team. However, if I had to choose one, it would be Eaton & I would only spot start him. I usually try to avoid pitchers I have to micromanage like that. Causes WAY too much second guessing against yourself. Get good, confident pitchers you can throw out there all the time (exception is in Coors).
  19. I'm confused: are you playing true roto ball where you don't play a H2H matchup every week, or are you actually playing H2H where two closers vs. three in a given week will be a detriment to you? And don't worry, closers are readily available on the FA Market. Keep up to date on your team and you'll be fine. Also, if its true roto ball, don't overvalue saves at the expense of bad WHIP or bad ERA.
  20. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060220/capt.6f714cf34db44d60806bffe6a5033dc5.cubs_spring_training_baseball__aznh112.jpg Z looks pretty big in this picture. Hopefully its just the really oversized jacket...
  21. Still is misspelled...
  22. If you've got number one waiver priority, don't waste it on a guy like Vidro who isn't much better than the guy you already have. I"m curious, how many teams are in your league?
  23. C: Barrett 1B: Pujols 2B: Weeks 3B: Aramis SS: Lopez LF: Dunn CF: Berkman RF: Bay Bench: Molina, D Lee, Edmonds, Freel, Carlos Lee, and Rolen SP: Oswalt SP Zambrano SP Prior SP Clemens (I'm assuming he comes back to the Stros on May 1, if not, then Sheets) SP Carpenter RP: Lidge RP: Turnbow RP: Mike Gonzalez RP: Dempster RP: Isringhausen RP: Eyre (need that other lefty)
  24. As would most trades involving young Miguel. I look at this trade from the standpoint of: JD Drew and Miggy Cabrera for Brian Giles and Mike Mussina. Rest is pretty much throwaway junk (though Loretta is sort of an upgrade from Belliard if he stays healthy, especially in that offense), and Casey is just an abysmal first base option.
  25. I think you mean Ron Belliard. And that trade greatly favors the dude getting Miggy.
