  1. For some reason, I could see them pursuing another good MVC coach, Dana Altman.
  2. But it's not that these guys weren't signed due to lack of funds. They weren't signed due to lack of intelligence. How many scenarios have you seen drawn up in the Transactions forum that involve a superstar FA being signed/traded for fitting well within the confines of our budget. It's just standard Cub procedure to sign 3 mediocrities instead of 1 real live ball-player. I agree with you to an extent. I'm just not sure I believe that there isn't something coming from above keeping this franchise from signing top tier FA's to the long term deals they command on the open market. They then sign the mediocre players to say, "well, we've got a 100 million dollar payroll, what more do you want?" But if they weren't friggin idiots and thought that signing 1 superstar instead of the mediocres would make the team better at the same price, why wouldn't they? Unless they forsee a huge decline in the value of MLB franchises with payrolls dropping across the board, there's no reason to be afraid of a long-term commitment when you have a payroll as high as we do. I guess I'm just not as convinced as you that its just the Front Office's stupidity. I will feel much better when they sign a prime guy in the offseason to put this team over the top. One of these years. Bear in mind they didn't sign any major FA's that I can recall pre-Hendry either, though you could argue that its all Andy MacPhail.

  4. Who's the last big free agent n their prime the Cubs signed? I think that is where some animosity lies. The Cubs have had a chance at signing big time free agents (and to reasonable deals) but have always signed the lesser tier guys to shorter contracts. Maybe there is something coming from the top to not give long term contracts to incoming FA's. I'm not sure. It sure seems like it though. Even with our own guys, only Ramirez got a four year deal (where he could get out after two years anyway).
  5. The bolded part seems to make it pretty clear that he does know about the draft pick exchange. Big win for the Bulls tonight. Now they need to win one more out of these last two, at least. Drats. That was awful on my part. Also, the sentence right preceding your paragraph: Alright, I get it! :D I must have read very quickly the first time around, because that is just apparent stupidity on my part. Wow. Can't believe I missed something that obvious.

  7. FromBill Simmons' most recent rambling, he goes on to talk about the Knicks in the Adam Morrison sweepstakes without mentioning at all about the Bulls getting the Knicks first round pick in 06. I hate it when a guy is that arrogant in his writing style (where he can write stupid columns about Boston being the greatest thing since, well ever) that he ignores common known fact (for those that followed a pretty major story during the offseason.
  8. BULLS WIN!! \:D/\:D/\:D/\:D/\:D/
  9. This might be the best 36 minute team in the NBA. I bet they lose, up 1 with 40 tix left.
  10. Michael Thompson is so awful. I can't believe you'd bring him up to strengthen your argument. He sucked at NORTHWESTERN. What makes you think he'd be of any use at Duke?
  11. Wasn't Shavlik Randolph (a noted white Mickey D AA) always in foul trouble?
  12. If its gonna be a LIVE draft, count me in. If its gonna be an autodraft, I'll pass.
  13. I agree. You shouldn't celebrate beating a crap team like Penn State at home on a fluke shot that ended up not counting. Looked silly.
  14. I thought it was pretty obvious that he didn't make it.
  15. Is it possible to have this split into two leagues? Teams are gonna be having guys like Marquis Grissom and John Mabry on them at this rate.
  16. Wolf, is this gonna be a keeper league (would be kind of difficult with this many people, but I'm not sure what you have in mind) and if so, how many playes would we be keeping?
  17. Your need is a big power hitter.
  18. Still gots a spot wolfman?
  19. Would stat guru Mark Cuban try and lure Billy Beane and co out of Oakland? Theo Epstein and gang out of Boston? I think he would.
  20. D,C,B,A E,G,F,H
  21. I'm just curious since I really have no idea, but how often is it when new ownership steps into a situation that there isn't a major overhaul in player personnel? My best guess would be that there'd be a very high rate of turnover, but I could be wrong.
  22. Great effort tonight. Came back from 30 down. Still ended up losing by 4, but that showed how much fight this team has in it.
  23. Final Four last year + get most of your good players back (exception F. Garcia) + C-USA to Big East = no top-12 conference finish. Actually, Louisville is missing a lot of pieces from last year's team: they lost Garcia, Larry O' Bannon, and Ellis Myles. Over 42 points a game. Almost 20 boards. That's a tall order for Jenkins, Gianiny, Palacios, and Padgett to overcome.
  24. lets trade white guyz yo! seriously, i'll make you an offer for something.
  25. I've seen various postings on here about distaste for fantasy sports, and Tim's comment being preceded by the "I may take heat for this..." disclaimer. What's with the fantasy disdain?
