  1. how sweet would it be if we somehow managed to pull this one out.
  2. you'd figure with the wind blowing out you'd hit at least one today. We need some power!!!!!
  3. What do you expect him to say when you're taking jabs at him? Anyway, August 1st and we're percentage points up is no time to celebrate, unless you enjoy having the shoe put on the other foot and shoved up your arse. Am I celebrating because the race is over? No. It's just begining. But celebrating making up 8.5 games in a 2 month span? I think that is definately something to be proud of. Enjoy the day, as I am. But understand that we could be back in 2nd place by end of tonight. When we are 5 or 6 up going into September, then I'll know this is real and not just hopeful thinking. I still don't think the Cubs have all the ingredients they need to be as successful as they can be in the playoffs. I'm hoping that Jim wanted to get Griffey or Dye, but the asking price was too much. I'm hoping that we are not at our budget's limit. Ken
  4. I agree. It would have been nice for him to get 300 last night. Maybe we can score 7 or 8 runs in the first inning and shut up the announcers.
  5. because we have been playing .500 baseball with our current roster for the last 2 months? It was a hot streak. It got them back into contention, but to think they will sustain +.650 baseball the rest of the year is really pushing it. They havent even been over 8 games above .500 The team has to many weaknesses to sustain playing at that level for a 2-3 month timeframe. I really consider it more of a reach to think they will play .500 ball the rest of the way. Do you realize just how weak the schedule is the rest of the way? The Cubs will make the playoffs and lose in the 1st round....UNLESS WE GET ANOTHER FRICKIN' BAT. thank you very much boy you're pretty good, to know that the cubs will lose to an unidentified team in a series of only five games. thanks, man.
  6. His job is on the line....he better hope so.

  8. I think Jim has been reading all the newspapers the last month on the Cubs being the hottest team in MLB since Jun 3.
  9. we got Kendal! and Wood....that's just as good as a trade!!!!!!
  10. Soriano, Jones, Floyd isn't that bad on paper if you look at their last healthy seasons. ...and let the rationalization begin.
  11. I'm not gonna stone you. I want to win now. I can live without Marmol this year if it means we win a championship. However, getting Dye does not guarentee that and Marmol has the potential to be unhittable for many years. I wish I had a crystal ball.
  12. Marmol better be untouchable. I'd rather trade Pie. Don't give Jimbo any ideas. I don't want Pie traded, I just don't want Marmol traded more. ?? ???
  13. When did he say that? Every year since he's been GM.
  14. Marmol better be untouchable. I'd rather trade Pie. ? yes, may I help you?

  17. Just get on the Cubs bandwagon? We're getting Griffey...the announcement will be at 3:59 EST
  18. wow, we could at least wait for confirmation that no moves are going to be made before crucifying him, couldn't we? Never too early to prepare for the letdown.
  19. yeah, so much for the big "it's time to win the world series" speech from John McDonough. Ken
  20. game over?????????????? turn off your t.v. then...nice faith in your team. It is more about respect for Hamels. so what, man....a game is never over in the 3rd inning unless it's 10 - 0

  22. I really dont understand all the talk about us needing a starter. Z and Lilly are a good 1-2 combo, and Rich Hill and Marshall's numbers are better than 3/4 of the #3 starters in baseball. Marshall seems to really catch alot of the "I just dont trust him" comments and can I ask why? look at these numbers...2 2 1 1 2 4 0 6 2 2 1 You know what those numbers are? Those are the earned runs given up by Marshall in his 11 starts, seriously what more does this guy have to do to garner some faith? Rich Hills numbers put him in the top 30 pitchers in baseball, and you dont think he is good enough to be a number 3 starter? What do you expect out of a number 3, because you are going to be hard pressed to find somebody with better numbers than Hill and Marshall. I have my doubts on how well they'll pitch in a playoff push in September. Hill started out great but has been unpredictable lately. The same for Marshall. Assuming, the Cubs 5 starter rotation is set through the rest of the year, let's get together and talk at the end of September. I will gladly admit I was wrong if Marquis, Hill, and Marshall are pitching strong and consistent. All 3 have been showing signs of inconsistency. I have my doubts, however. that in a playoff race, they will be consistent enough to win. If we don't get another bat, and it's looking more and more like we won't, it's gonna be our pitching that will define whether we are a legitimate playoff team or not. What about Marshalls numbers are inconsistent? 2 2 1 1 2 4 0 6 2 2 1 If thats not consistency, then I dont know what is So you went from Hill to Marshall?? Well then make Marshall your number 3. Right now Marquis is in that position....do you think that's warranted? Let's see how Marshall holds up under the pressure of a pennant race. I don't have the confidence that he will be consistent in a MUST WIN scenerio. As I said, I'll gladly admit if I'm wrong....and I hope I am.
