  1. ...from getting another bat before trading deadline? While I'm encouraged that we're winning, I still believe we need one more stick to get us competitive for the playoff race. I'm also wondering how much of a factor the sale of the Cubs will also have in preventing us from going out and making a trade. Does anyone out here believe that the Cubs can really make a run for it with the existing pieces? Maybe Soto is the answer at catcher and will provide another stick, but I don't think we can count on that. On the positive side, I am very encouraged that Itzuris and Jones have been relegated to subs. Ken
  2. We have no chance. I'm sorry I started this thread.
  3. So how does this process work? I'm assuming the Trib will go with the highest bidder. Can Cuban compete? And is it a simple majority vote by the owners?
  4. worked up about it? not at all enjoying the discussion? sure.
  5. It was clearly a mistake not to bat Pujols last night -- at least that is my opinion. It's like any of the threads on this forum, there are two sides of the issue and we are discussing them. Is that OK?
  6. There comes a time when a manager must have full faith in a batter based on his maturity/past performance to swing when they feel they have their pitch -- even if it's the first one. In football, there are very few QB's where a coach would let them call their own game, for example, Peyton Manning. I believe Pujols is that kind of player. I think he's proven himself enough, so you trust him. If he bats in that situation, you don't give him the red light. You let him swing away, even if it is the first pitch. If he pops out, oh well. You have two different philosophies....if a pitcher walks the bases loaded, you take the first pitch based on his wildness. Or....you figure he's not going to want to walk a run in so he's going to serve a nice fastball down the middle of the plate. I see merits in both philosophies. As to which one is best, I think it depends on the batter.
  7. zing! Izturis is just sad Izturis is just bad.
  8. btw, when is the trading deadline?
  9. I don't think you consider it at all. OK, his home run stats have been down, but he still has the 2nd best batting average in the N.L. and has the 2nd most Total bases on the team. I wouldn't change a thing.
  10. Nobody in this thread said they are terrible because they lost a game. Terrible against left handed pitching, yes, but not as a whole. I think the somewhat hidden point was even the best teams in baseball WILL get shutout. The timing of asking how they are against left handers after one loss after many wins just annoys me (him). Ask it if they do this four or five more times in the next 2 weeks. The streak we're in right now is without a doubt the best we've had all year. I'm excited what I'm seeing these past two weeks. With that said, we've had a problem the last few years with left-handed pitching. And we get skunked today by a left handed pitcher. Nothing wrong with simply asking a question about how the Cubs have done against LHP this year. I by no means am implying that the Cubs suck because they got shutout by a LHP. But given their past, I don't think the question is at all out of line. Ken
  11. I know the Cubs have been terrible against left hand pitching in the past. Today is another one of those performances. I was just curious if anyone could post the Cubs record vs. left handers this year. Also, in the past, I understand that the Cubs have not had a batting practice lefty. Has that changed this year? Ken
  12. Lou Piniella isn't perfect, but I've all but forgotten about that previous manager....what was his name?
  13. The Cubs are the hottest team in baseball right now!! When was the last time that happened?? "Do you believe?" Ken
  14. ...because Baseball is the only sport that true emulates life experiences. There is no clock in life, there are plenty of ups and downs just like in baseball, and we must endure to the end (like baseball's long season). People like football because it's fast paced...we live in a "want it now" society. Football fulfills that. Baseball, however, is slow paced, methodical, and calculated...more so than any other sport. I love Baseball because it most emulates my life.
  15. ibl I don't care....lol....today's game was freakin' awesome
  16. All I can say is "Wow!" I think we have momentum now. The Brewers have to be deflated after the way they lost today. Let's kick them tomorrow while they're down. Ramirez is the man!!!!
  17. true...and now that they're winning, the Brewers are playing some of their best baseball of the year. I'm beginning to thing that the implosion we all expected of the Brewers ain't gonna happen, and that we need to focus on the wildcard.
  18. I love that Theriot and Fontenot are starting with Derosa as the super-sub. Do you guys think Fontenot is the real thing? What are his minor league stats? Ken
  19. The Cubs have been playing better baseball as of late. Without any major acquistions, do you think the Cubs have a shot at making the playoffs this year? And do you think Hendry is pondering a trade before the deadline, and what do you think that might be? Ken
  20. I think one can make a clear case that the Cubs DO NOT suck. Under Dusty, yes, they sucked. But this year I believe they are just inconsistent (which I guess you can say about every Cubs team). Starting pitching has surprised me. Offense is inconsistent but has shown signs of coming to life. The bullpen...now the bullpen SUCKS. However, despite our inconsistency, we are still in the thick of it and I think we can win the central. We are in 2nd place and only 5.5 games out of first. I think you can hardly say the Cubs suck overall. Yes, they have periods of suckiness, but the Cubs do not suck. JMHO Ken
  21. Before last night, we had the worst batting average (.233 or something close) with bases loaded. I reiterate --- the Cubs choke in pressure situations!! weren't you proven to be laughably wrong on this point in another thread? Mr. abuck1220 (superstar), The Cubs are DEAD LAST in batting average with the bases loaded. I call that lack of clutch hitting. And btw, stop being an ars Actually they're not. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/byteam?cat=Situational&cut_type=94&conference=MLB&year=season_2007&sort=722 And they're third with RISP. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/byteam?cat=Situational&cut_type=39&conference=MLB&year=season_2007&sort=722 uh....yes, they are....dead last in the national league.....that's what I meant to say. Does it really matter??? they absolutely suck in pressure situations.
