  1. Or maybe just allow them to vent their frustration
  2. kente777

    OPS?

  3. Maybe...but Wood's stuff is 10 times better than Dempster. Wood is looking like a closer. Dempster got away with alot of lucky saves. Reminded me alot of Borowski. I never really felt like any lead was safe with him or Dempster. Wood is starting to look like the dominant closer we all knew he could be.
  4. The Cubs also have taken a different approach this season. They're more patient. Ex-Cub Barrett noticed. "The big thing right now with that lineup is their on-base percentage is so high," Barrett said. "They really force you to pitch to them, to come to them. They don't make many quick outs." Barrett cited DeRosa's homer and Soriano's blast as examples of the aggressive-yet-smart approach the Cubs are taking at the plate. "To me, good teams have the ability to hit other pitches as well," Barrett said. "You have to stay stubborn with all your pitches, not just your fastball. That's the difference between a good offensive team and a great one."
  5. I was like everybody else on this board....waiting for Theriot to crash. But I am almost to the point where I think he's got it figured out. His contributions have been huge. Discuss.
  6. unless wood blows a save in the ninth inning of game seven of the world series... then we go find budhouse and tear him limb from limb Knowing our luck as Cubs fans, he'll have saved 40 in a row giving up 3 runs in 45 appearances leading up to that game 7 WS blown save. I'm not sure my heart can handle another situation like this. '84 killed my innocence. '03 almost killed me. '84, game 4 - I can still see Lee Smith giving up that HR to popeye arms Steve Gravey, Henry Cotto climbing the fence in a vain effort to catch it - man, I hated Lee Smith. After that I knew it was over, sure the Cubs had an 3-0 lead in game 5 but, I knew it was over. Just like I knew it was over after we blew it in the 8th inning of game 6 in the NLCS. Wood on the mound, not withstanding. You don't lose a game the way we did and come back and win....and we didn't. ](*,)
  7. You're right...Pittsburgh. Thanks.
  8. because of the way we lost those last 2 games. We should have won both, but we lost both instead. Yeah, I know, just bad luck. But I'm not so sure. I just hope we don't slip into the opposite mode...instead of hating our own ball park, we hate the away parks. Anyway, maybe I'm just paranoid.
  9. Is anyone else concerned about the way the Cubs are playing at home vs. on the road? I just hated the "using Wrigley as an excuse" attitude under the Baker regime. Wrigley should be an advantage to our Cubs....so it's finally great to see us winning at home. But....the Houston series concerned me a bit. Thoughts?
  10. I still think the man is way overpaid for the type of offensive player he is...impatient, free swinging, and streaky. I knew he would come out of his slump...but soon enough, he'll be back swinging at everything in the world....and missing.
  11. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3396535 Big surprise.
  12. Pretty confident statement given the fact that he's blown 3 of 7 saves.
  13. This is one of the most ignorant statements I have ever read on this board (or I'm just missing the dripping sarcasm). Derrek Lee is one of the classiest guys on this team, not to mention one of the best Cub hitters.
  14. Well, it's Marquis and Dempster per Cubs.com
  15. He did. Congrats Rockies. Well-deserved. Rockies would've owned Chicago if the Cubs made it to the NLCS. no, actually the cubs would have done the unbelievable...they would have made it a good NLCS...i don't know if they would have won, but i know they wouldn't have been swept... i am SO happy the diamonds got the broom...hopefully it will make them realize that they were lucky that the cubs fell over and played possum What is the basis for your argument? The Rockies have the most potent offense in baseball, and it's clear their pitching staff can get the job done, too. I live in Denver and get to watch lots of Rockies games. Based on what I've seen from them this year, they would steamroll the Cubs (which happened when the Cubs were here in August). Not sure I would agree with the Rockies being "the most potent offense in baseball," but I do agree that they are better than the Cubs. The Cubs may have some big names, but those big names looked like little girls against the D-Backs. We will not go to the World Series next year unless we add a couple of missing pieces.
  16. Aside from the fact that I was watching an actually good baseball team?
  17. Agreed. An early exit just saved us fans from greater heartbreak.
  18. Ok, I will then. Arizona is better than us (can't speak for Colorado) 1) They won the regular season against us. 2) They had more wins than us in a better division. 3) They beat us handily in the NLDS. Say what you want about how we have better talent and we were too tight in the playoffs -- yada, yada..... ...until the Cubs prove otherwise, Arizona is better than us. (one only needs to look at the difference in plate approach to see that).
  19. I don't buy into this at all. I do.
  20. U too, man. You'll be back, as Cubs fans always do.
  21. Though, I started watching the Cubs around 1971, it wasn't really until 1984 that my pain started. So for me, it's only been 23 years. I do really feel bad for those who are in their 70's and 80's who have been waiting much longer than me. But trust me, one day it will happen, and when it does, we will all be in tears.
  22. Guys, I just want to say that I really believe that all of us will see a World Series one day -- I think it will be sooner rather than later. And when we do, all of this pain and longsuffering will be swept away by the joy of a world championship. I know all of us are disappointed. I think we all knew deep in our hearts that this was an average or slightly above average baseball team. I guess I'd rather go out this way than for another 2003 finish. But one of these days, we are gonna win, and win big. With each year that goes by without a championship, ownership (whoever they may be) will be under more and more pressure to get it done. I like Lou Piniella and I believe he knows what pieces we need to get it done, and now he has some pull with new ownership to get those pieces. Thanks to NSBB for a great forum for all of us to voice our opinions, excitement, and disappointment. Ken (now and always a Cubs fan)
  23. Yeah, I'm out too. See you next year Chicago Flubs!
  24. Not for me. I'm gonna completely forget about this team till Spring. I ain't ruining my life for this team.
