  1. Thanks for blowing the shut-out Burnitz. :x
  2. Julian Tavarez would never hit an opposing batter on purpose would he? A man of such fine integrity and moral rectitude? Preposterous!
  3. One of the more pleasant surprises this season has been the offensive development of Michael Barrett. He's nearly matched his walk output from the entirety of last year, and this from a guy who got off to a rough start in April and only drew only 10 walks in the first three months of the season. It's like he made a concentated effort to be more patient at the plate. I doubt this came at the behest of Dusty or the coaching staff.
  4. I heard a comedian once describe Herman Munster as history' first gay monster. Hmmm. I always though this was the first gay monster... http://sample.fansofbarney.com/images/BarneyFan/b2.gif
  5. The throw to the plate was off-line, so the catcher - who fielded the throw cleanly - nailed the trailing A-Ram at second. It was the right thing to do (taking the extra base on a play at the plate), he's just slooooow.
  6. Nice job navigating the danger Z! I feel so much more comfortable with Patterson patrolling center.
  7. Zambrano indicated he was OK. But since the visit from the trainer he's allowed a double and a walk.
  8. The trainer was out to talk with Z. Cramps?
  9. Macias: 41.0 PA/BB His Neifiness: 39.9 PA/BB Edit: The #'s were wrong the first time.
  10. We mock them because we care. It's like what Ike said to Tina Turner, "I hit you because I love you, baby."
  11. Well, he did write the The City of New Orleans. And, as a die hard Cub fan, he also wrote Go Cubs Go. Link to Jon Davis's great site... http://www.jonmdavis.net/cubs/gocubsgo2003mix.mp3
  12. Can you give us Fredi Gonzalez's baseball philosophy? I know about his affection of young players, but that can't be the only baseball skill he has. He's been a successful minor league manager and has worked in what I believe is the best run organization in baseball. Like any young manager getting his first shot to run a MLB team, we can't be entirely certain what he will do. On the other hand, he has learned under Cox and I expect that much of Cox's philosophies have rubbed off on him. Since we can't get Cox, I'll settle for the next best thing in one of his lieutenants. Yeah, but you can say the same thing about Grady Little. He also came up in the Braves orginization. The reason he got hired was that he was also a successful manager of the Richmond Braves and was considered a "lieutenant" of Bobby Cox and John Schuerholz. Of course, it is entirely possible that he got a raw deal in Boston. After all, he did take them into the play-offs and almost to the World Series.
  13. Damn, I hate that song. But it speaks the truth... ::sigh::
  14. I don't know, I think it is a trenchant observation. They are like a horse with a broken leg. They are also like... ...an automobile without brakes. ...a maggot infested dung heap. ...the feeling you get the next morning after a tequila binge. ...an anal fungus. ...a crust-infested scab being preyed upon by blood thirsty gnats. ...having a bowling ball rolled into your groin. ...a raging migraine headache. ...the comedic stylings of Steve Urkel. ...milk way past its expiration date. ...tuberculosis. ...Joe Carter on color commentary. Feel free to provide your own.
  15. Nay on Little. I say we bring in Terry Bevington. joking
  16. Sad, just sad. Even though I want Dusty gone, this is still too painful to watch.
  17. Not disagreeing here. Either call up Greenberg (he of the first pitch beaning) or play Sea-Pat. (Or start Burnitz in center and play Murton in right.)
  18. If you're trying to defend Baker, you're really grasping at straws. And you can't construct a reasonable argument for Holla playing over Matt, at least a this point. It is impossible. If Murton gets consistent AB's and is as bad as Holla has been, then things like Murton failing to move a runner might have some relevance. Unfortunately, with Dusty... ...when Hollandsworth comes up with runners on first and second in the second inning of a game in which in they trail 2-0 in the second inning with nobody out, and he proceeds to hit into a double play, it's just tough luck for the veteran. ...when Murton comes with a runner on second and nobody out (in a 6-1 game in the top of the 8th) and he flys out...well, it's proof that the kid can't execute and shouldn't be playing. While I don't like to make excuses for the younger players, at least they have an excuse. What does Todd Hollandsworth have?
  19. If Prior does it oo I'm sure that will be the end of Baker. If Zambrano did indeed intentionally stick it to Baker, I wouldn't necessarily call it the end of Dusty. I am more willing to believe it would probably be the end of Zambrano (as a Cub).
  20. I wouldnt go so far as to say Lawton's defensive lapse is due to Dusty. Lawton has never been a good defensive player. The Cubs knew what they were getting into when they picked him up. Unfortunately, the Lawton trade is looking more and more like a mistake. Lawton is unlikely to be a Cub in 2006, while Gerut would have been a nice player to have next year, especially as a fourth outfielder and a left-handed bat off of the bench (even with his arbitration increased salary). The only bright side to all of this is the possibility that Lawton nets us a compensatory draft pick as a free agent.
  21. this was excellent... and waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy too true... I dunno...I'm pretty sure Benny could have beaten Macias and Hollandsworthless to first base, especially if he was chasing some buxom secretary or nurse or something. What about managing? I mean... http://premierespeakers.com/photos/2908.jpg vs. http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1910000/images/_1913270_benny150.jpg You be the judge.
