  1. Meh. Hairston career #'s (age 29): .262/.335/.373 Roberts career #'s (age 33): .257/.335/.353 Neither of these guys are all that special. Roberts is probably a short term upgrade given his speed and defense in center.
  2. FWIW, MLB.com will be carrying live video and audio feeds of the induction ceremony starting at 1:30 ET.
  3. Which would support my theory.... And that theory would be....prejudice against managers who use relief pitchers like it is going out of style?
  4. Right now, I'm questioning Felipe Alou's thinking capacity.
  5. Murton~! (Note to Dusty, did you just see how it is supposed to be done?)
  6. I'm listening to WGN radio after the great Milt Rosenberg show. They have Andy Mazur on and he is talking about Neifi Perez as if he is some undiscovered gem unknown to the general baseball public. He does say that the Kerry Wood to the bullpen rumors might be unfounded.
  7. Yep, it was a great slide on a very good throw. Cedeno deserves all the credit for this win.
  8. I'm talking about going forward. All of his stats are skewed by his ridiculous April. Since then he's reverted to his career norms, which are awful at hitting, hitting for power, getting on base, and everything else related to offense in baseball. Yeah, but his .200 batting average over the last month or so is not indicative of his talent either. His current stats overall are pretty much in sync with his career numbers (.269/.300/.380).
  9. According to VORP (value over replacement), he has contributed 5 runs over what a theoretical replacement SS would produce. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/team_audit.php?stats&team=CHN Addendum: I am referring to his Neifiness.
  10. He doesn't suck, he's a very serviceable SS just not what we were expecting as a starter. He's hitting in the .260s not .230 Corey was a worse. Atleast Neifi makes contact. He's one of the worst hitters in the game, his OBP is criminal. I loved that HR as much as anyone(I was there, it was awesome), but people are saying that he's on fire when he's 2 for 8 these last two games. He's an awful hitter, plain and simple. He's awful, but he is a back-up. His offense is actually slightly above replacement and he plays plus defense. Seriously, it would be hard to expect much else from a back-up.
  11. More good managing by Dusty, brining in Dempster and doing the double swith with Cedeno. Shock of shocks.
  12. I wonder what the record is for most pitching changes in an inning.
  13. I think you need runners on 1st and 2nd at least for the infield fly rule to be in effect You are correct. I just looked it up.
  14. I haven't seen the play, but whatever happened to the infield fly rule? Seems it would have been appropo in that situation (not that it would have done the Cubs any good).
  15. Hawkins has actually pitched well of late.
  16. What I don't get is don't sinkerball pitchers normally take an inning or two to "warm up" and find their stuff? Why is Mitre pitching in the pen when his repertoire suggests that he is less than ideal for that role?
  17. Gah! The 80's! Actually, I like 80's music. Me too. http://www.bospop.nl/images/bands/iron_maiden_groepsfoto.jpg
  18. http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000002INN.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Shake, shake your loooove!
  19. That was the best Mike Remlinger performance of recent vintage that I can recall.
  20. I'd just as soon see Jody Gerut play against RHP if Dusty insists on a platoon.
  21. Damnit, I wish Debby Gibson would shut her pie-hole, there's a game I'm trying to follow. (Admittedly, listening to Ron Santo chat it up with Debby Gibson about her greatest hits is high comedy).
  22. Ron Santo just had a conniption. He yelled, "What's going on?!?"
  23. Pat Hughes just called Neifi a key acquisition by the Cubs. Truth be told, he is not the worst regular on this team, at least by way of VORP, that distinction goes to Todd Hollandsworth. Barrett!
