  1. The Cubs sound like a logical candidate. Hendry was looking for a bat off the bench at the deadline. The Mets make the most sense however, as hed likely get the starting job in left. Cardinals and D-Backs are other likelies. Giles was definitely claimed before he got to the Cubs. I'm guessing it was the Braves. Why do you say that? Becuase I didn't realize major league GMs were idiots. Um, alright then.

  3. You pretty much have to know someone, from what I've been told. They aren't going to release them to the general public. At least not for the game itself. Not sure about the other events. As an aside, it's nice to see they're finally doing something with the Ballpark Village area. Finally.
  4. Very much so. I'd love it for three reasons. One, because I think it would be an easy series win. Two, because I'd love to have my team beat the team of so many of my friends and colleagues who give me crap all the time for being a Cubs fan. And three, it's Cubs vs. Cards. I always get more psyched for those series than any others. Beating the Cards in the NLCS en route to our first World Series title in 100 years would be storybook.
  5. Probably 2004 sometime. Didn't an ESPN announcer say that the other day was the first time they had been 21 games over (or whatever it was at the time) since 1969?
  6. If ever there is a time to pitch Bob Howry, this is it.
  7. then you just get to be annoyed by arcane blackout rules (grrr) Yeah, that part of it sucks. But it only affects me on Saturdays so it's not a huge annoyance.
  8. Buy Extra Innings. It's an easy $200 to spend.
  9. When I went to sleep last night, the Cards game was tied. I woke up this morning and had a hunch that Lundwick hit a walkoff home run. Not surprised that I was right.
  10. That's not a problem for the Cubs. They aren't the ones who have to gain ground.
  11. Lou HAS to stop using him in any role other than mop up until he shows he can get people out.
  12. Bob effing Howry strikes again. Should've DFA'ed him. What a waste of space.
  13. He's sucked since coming back? He pitched once in, what, two weeks? You would expect anyone to suck after not pitching for that long.
  14. This pisses me off. Eyre was great this year up until his final two outings before he got hurt. Then, predictably, he was bad in his most recent outing after not pitching for an eternity.
  15. I don't understand why this game isn't going to be continued today. I thought there was a rule that said it had to be if the home team was still batting or something like that. I remember a game in against Pittsburg early last year where a similar situation presented itself and the game was continued the next day at noon.
  16. This reminds me of the Maddux game from a couple years ago. Was that the night he got his 300th win, or was it his 3000th K?
  17. Great, so I'm not getting much sleep tonight.
  18. Didn't they win like 10 games last year? My sleeper is the Rams in that putrid division. I think Stephen Jackson is in a contract year. There's a pretty good article on ESPN.com right now that talks about the Rams chances. There are a lot of ifs with them, but if Jackson ends the holdout, if Pace can stay healthy, if Bennett can be a #2 receiver, and if an Az Hakim type of player can be found internally, they should be good enough to get to the playoffs.
  19. Oddly enough, their evacuation route took them directly to Packers training camp. Nice.
  20. Damn, I just realized the Angels were 11.5 up!
  21. Where is it being shown? The Youtube generation is slacking http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2008_08_04_milmlb_cinmlb_1 I love Thom's reaction. "Oh look at this!"
