Someone needs to kidnap Howry for the next 4 innings. Lou's going to have to go to the pen early tonight, with Zambrano's pitch count quickly getting up there.

I know I'm late to the curtain call discussion, but the best part about it to me was that it didn't even seem like the fans were really asking for it. Some were still cheering, but nowhere near the level that you usually hear when a player gives them a curtain call.

The only reason I can remember it so vividly is because I was driving up to Chicago at the time with a car full of Cards fans listening to it on the radio.

I'm close. I was a big supporter of his, but I just can't take it anymore. Ryan Theriot's made far more braindead plays this year than Cedeno ever has. It's a lot easier to accept when a guy is hitting like Theriot is, but to single out Ronny as braindead when the guy next to him is even worse at those things seems odd. I'm sure Ronny would have more braindead plays if they had equal opportunities. If Ronny Cedeno threw a ball into RF from his back it would be sigged, avatarred, and mentioned every page of every game thread. People hate Ronny Cedeno because he was terrible in '06(not terrible because he was "dumb", terrible because he was terrible and not ready to play) and because he overslid the base once last year. That's about it. From that point on every error, every K, every out with a runner on is braindead Ronny. Maybe to some irrational people. I think he's bad at baseball. I also think he's a stupid player. Those are different.

Your probably right, but Cedeno has made some really bonehead moves in his short career. Getting thrown out on a SB when the hitter walks comes to mind for myself. Are you talking about that game against the Cards? That play was in the 9th inning in a game we were trailing by (I think) one run.

Very frustrating baseball player. Very stupid baseball player. Gotta walk Braun here. For those of us without CSNC, what happened? Lilly had Hall picked off. He threw it to Lee, Lee then threw a strike to Cedeno who was covering second. And Cedeno didn't catch the ball. I don't even think he got glove on it. Just another boneheaded play by the Cubs' biggest moron. Great play by Lee there to end the inning.

Eyre's last two outtings (over a month ago) were really bad, but prior to that he had been really really good this year. Take away those two outtings, and he has a 0.87 ERA, .546 OPSA, and a WHIP just under one. If we trade him we better get good return on him. -
I get that players and coaches are going to get suspended when things like this happen. But just once, I'd like to see an ump suspended for misconduct.

I read a post on BCB from someone saying that they say he had updated it letting people know he got the call (this was before it was public knowledge). I checked the blog after seeing that and there was nothing there. Either that person made it up, which would be very weird, or Jeff was told to take it down.

Why would Epstein & Co want to go from overpaying Ramirez for two more months to overpaying Soriano for six years? There's also the whole issue that Soriano is an inferior hitter to Ramirez. It's not about the money. It's about the whole "Manny being Manny" striking out on purpose, hitting the travelling secretary, whining about how they don't respect him and so on. Striking out on purpose? When did this happen?

What a great game today. Nice to see the Cubs fight back after getting down early. Soriano looks like he's starting one of those hot streaks. Lee had a nice game. Fontenot with a HUGE hit, what a great year he's having. And of course Edmonds with the sick catch to end it. -
