  1. Did Lee run on that 3-2 pitch? The last look I saw he wasn't moving.
  2. ARam tries to pull 2 outside pitches and gets defensive on a heater up high. Poor AB.
  3. I didn't see the play so could someone explain the play? Was it a suicide squeeze or a safety squeeze? If it was a suicide then CPatt should have been running the second the pitcher was going home and should have never been thrown out by a second baseman at home. Also, Piror has to have blind faith that CPatt is going to run and do his job and not worry about doing Patterson's too. These constant breakdowns that the Cubs have been doing are annoying the heck out of me and I see no reason for this to happen time and time again. Either this coaching staff doesn't communicate too well to the players in regards to what they have to do or the players can do what they want and not worry about any recourse. Either way it's not a good thing and it's time for a change.
  4. When you're there see if you can get them to send the Cubs a certain SS.
  5. Just lose baby. Sisco seems to have slumped a little of late too. any chance they send him to the minors  You had me smiling for a minute then I remembered that they have kept him long enough to be able to send him down...I think.

  7. I'm hoping that since he is one of the youngest guys that his pitch recoginition will come in time. How did he do in HS regarding his BB/K ratio?
  8. Bummer...I was hoping the Cubs would trade Murton, Pie and Cedeno for him.
  9. Out of curiousity, has anyone here ever won "How Far Did it Fly" on WGN?
  10. Not until Sandberg makes the commitment to coach everyday on a team. I am also not into having a player who was once a very good one for my favorite team be it's manager. It reminds me of signing a player because he is from the area....look how well that's worked out for the Cubs.
  11. Maybe SF had the right idea? Tax evasion....that's how they got rid of Capone too so maybe there is an accountant willing to take a chance and look into Bakers tax records? :D
  12. Sam, How did you figure out what adjustments to make to improve your swing as the season progressed? Also along those lines what adjustments did you make?
  13. I remember having this same debate about Wood years ago. Wood and Prior are very different pitchers. Kerry has always been higher risk. Maybe a higher risk...maybe but he still had a lot of value to offer to a team. Get rid of Prior and the Cubs go from middle of the pack rotation to one of the worse. Some have not realized how quickly the Cub rotation has fallen. I didn't mind seeing Clement go cause he was always inconsistent and $8 mil/yr. was too much, but am kinda missing him now, especially w/ Maddux fading. That is my point...they have fallen and what is one pitcher going to do for them? Also, trading a pitcher like Clement would have brought in some nice players but the Cubs instead got a 2nd round pick. Hendry can not wait IMO for things to happen and should make it happen this time. Now, think about it. Prior and Z pitch and no runs are scored...what's the point? I also think that the Cubs could get a quality starting pitcher, a 2 or 3, to help ease the pain and loss of Prior. IMO, this team will always hover around 500 unless Hendry makes a big deal like this. They'll always be an almost contender with little tweeks here and there to make them a little better or worse but to make that final push for greatness you have to do make a gamble like this.

  15. I'm confused. Prior is so good you can't trade him but other GM's would laugh at you for wanting quality in return? In order to improve your team by trading Prior, you need to get X amount in return. GM's would laugh you off the phone for trying to get X from them for Prior. I disagree. You just let the GM's know he may be available and let them do the bidding. He doesn't have to be traded and that works to the Cubs advantage.

  17. In addition to Herschel Walker previously mentioned, can you provide some other examples of teams trading away their star to get better? I guess the Rangers trading away ARod would qualify. Maybe the Bulls should have traded Jordan away at his height... The Pat's trading Bledsoe A Phils and Indians trade awhile back with Von Hayes I also do not consider Jordan to be like Prior. One basketball player can really make a difference while one baseball player won't make an impact like that....except for Bonds and Prior is no Bonds. Bledsoe doesn't count because a football team only needs one starting quarterback and the Pat's had 2. But, they gambled that Brady would be good and not a one year wonder. They had no guarentee that he would turn out like that.
  18. I'd say the untouchables should be Prior, Z, Ramirez and probably Lee (even though he won't have this kind of season again IMO, he's still a gold glove 1Bman with a pretty solid bat). That's where I differ. I don't think there should ever be an untouchable on a baseball team. I think this is why Beane is successful, he doesn't fall in love with a player and moves him when it helps the team.

  20. I understand why you say that but this is the best time to deal him and to get full value. He is a wonderful pitcher and the beauty part is that he is pitching well right now so his value is high and will be quite desirable to many GM's. Imagine if there is a bidding war for him and what the haul could be? Again like Walker, he was the best player on that team and the Cowboys traded him because it made the whole team better and I feel you have to give up a stud to really get the parts you need to make yourself a championship caliber team. I don't think Lee or ARam could get enough to do that and since quality starting pitching is the thing most GM's want, why not get their best pitching prospect, 2 very good everyday postion players and a 2 or 3 pitcher?
  21. Well, I agree that it's definitely better than paying them to play somewhere else. *COUGH* Sammy *COUGH* And it's been working for Beane as long as I can (conveniently?) remember. Since Prior is pretty cheap right now a low market good team can trade for him as well. When Prior gets too expensive for them they can trade him for some quality too. I just think this is the right move, IFF, the deal is the right match for the Cubs.
  22. Don't worry, things look pretty bleak now, so I doubt you get ripped on this proposal. I'd even consider it longer if we knew whether Wood will ever be the horse he was signed to be. Z is great, but the starting rotation IMO needs more (RELIABLE) depth. Kat I wanted Wood traded before when he had high trade value too. I just think the best thing to do is to trade a star to make your team better. It is not a popular thing to do but IMO it's the right way to improve the team. I do not believe that one player can put this team over the top and if trading Prior will help...I'm all for it.
  23. It would not be in the best interest to trade prior at the moment because 1. His value could be much heigher than it is right now 2. He is cheap, and not nearing pay day yet The A's got a boat load for Mulder and Hudson and look where they are now.
  24. I have no problem with that list except for I'm not sure what kind of shape Johnson is in to manage again.
