  1. Had a decent career. I understand your thinking and again I wouldn't have done the Neifi deal like that either but I see him as at least helping the team while Miller gets paid to rehab and probably move on. If it were up to me I would have signed Perez for 500,000 for one year and not gambled on Miller. If Perez could get more elsewhere then I'd get another player who could play SS. IMO Hendry was nervous if Cedeno failed and he decided to cover himself with the devil he knew.
  2. Werd. That's why the first reply in this thread was me saying "Bwuahaha". There's no way on earth that A-Rod would accept a trade to the Cubs, and the Yankees wouldn't unload him anyway, especially not for a group of inept Cubs players. I do see ARod not wanting to go to the Cubs. Now the White Sox will pick him up and he'd go in a second.
  3. It's a massive stretch to call this a waste of payroll a la Rusch or Neifi. Like you said, it's a million dollars...pretty much chump change for these teams. It's a gamble, but hey, it's not big loss. Trying to prop it up like it's some kind of disaster is ridiculous. The biggest problem is that Hendry only made a few stopgap moves in the offseason instead of really stepping things up...had he done those big moves, the Miller deal would have looked fantastic. But even so, it's nowhere near being a waste like Neifi. I'd take Neifi being used correctly for 2.5 than waste 1 million on a guy that won't pitch for you. Then I'm glad you're not running this team. I never thought Miller would amount to anything he once was. The Cubs could find any pitcher to have a 5 or 6 ERA in the pen for less than 1 million. Also, watch the Cubs give Miller a deal for 2 or 3 for next year. Perez has value and yeah, he is by far overpayed but Baker uses him way too much and thanks to Hendry he gets to for 2 years. But, just paying for a player to rehab is a waste of money and unlike a lot of people I don't think Miller will be any good even if he is healthy. But we have no idea what Miller can or can't do at this point. Yeah, it's a gamble, but its the nature of the deal...hence why on the MLB scale, only paying a million dollars for one year isn't even close to being a problem. It's pretty much win-win either way. If he can come back in any capacity and perform, hey, you got him for only a million bucks. If he can't do anything at all, hey it was only a million bucks. That kind of money is nothing on a payroll like this. And given the fact that Miller actually has some decent numbers in his history, it's not a bad idea to take a try on him post-surgery. Neifi Perez, on the other hand, is terrible...always has been and always will be. Nothing in his career has made even close to being worhty of one million dollars, much less the FIVE million dollars he's eating up right now. The guy is a last inning defensive sub at the best and he's locked into a two year minimum five million dollar contract. That's terrible team management and really not even comparable to the Miller deal. That's where we are different. I don't see spending 1 million on a rehab as chump change while looking at 2.5 million as if it's 7 or 8 million. If 1 million isn't a lot why is 2.5 such a big deal? I agree that Perez is a defensive/injury replacement guy but, he could at least help the team if used right. Miller is a drain on 1 million and add to that the cost of rehab. Rehab does cost money.
  4. I hate to see how lazy a player like Jones would be playing for Baker. He could bring a lawn chair out to CF and have a beer and Baker would scream at Murton if a ball was hit over Jones head. Of course, Murton would be on the the bench at the time. Hoops....do you think Jones could be a steroid guy? if he isn't I'd look into moving Pierre and others for him. Walker Murton/Good hitting left handed LF platoon dude Lee A.Jones ARam J.Jones Barrett Cedeno

Then I'm glad you're not running this team. If it's Cuse vs. Mojo vs. Hendry, then it's absolutely no contest. Orangeman all the way! After our 1-10 football season and now this 2006 Cub team I'm a glutton for punishment my friend!

  7. I agree bobbyd. I don't trust them and this is after putting my faith in Hendry for his whole tenure. IMO....He just does not know how to build a winning baseball team and I'd like to see him proactive but my faith has been shaken way too much for me to believe he'd do it the right way. I would like to see a change and let them dimantle this team the way they see fit and not have to pick up any more of the MacPhail/Hendry mess. Agreed. I wonder what Dallas Green is up to these days? :) He posts on this board! :D I wish this team had the patience for Green as they do for Hendry.
  8. I think Depo was too quick/impulsive to make decisions. He scares me and I think he needs to show a little more patience. If he learned that lesson then he would be a decent choice but if he didn't he would make this team a different type of loser IMO.
  9. IMO Clines and Baker got too much into Coreys head and he was thinking and not hitting. Yeah, he's a bit of a free swinger but he is a good hitter and IMO an above average CF overall. Thanks to the wonderful staff assembled by Mr. Hendry we get to watch him do well in Baltimore. I hope they are helping Murton the same way they did CPatt because they do a really good job. I look forward to seeing Murton hit 300/380 for some other team someday.

  12. Thanks for the pictures Fred. I think I recognized some of those faces from the post office though.
  13. I have no faith in any of these people and I look forward to Mr. Hendry over paying for the next Jones/Perez types. Not only that but to completely over bid (because he'll over react) on a very over rated free agent. I look forward to another crappy off season of limited thinking and absolutely no plan what so ever. Of course we'll have to wait for the 2006 World Series winner and see what pattern of success Mr. Hendry will follow. Chemistry...didn't work. Small ball...didn't work. 2006 winner? We'll see.
  14. Hendry has no problem wasting money on the Perez/Miller types. I was against this waste of a million bucks from the beginning and once again the lightning in a bottle doesn't work but there's always next year to waste another million or 5 on has beens or never was. Maybe Hendry can search some garage sales and look for the next "project".
  15. They need to get Bynum back first. Then they'll be unbeatable. We can only dream. Gained another game on Pitt yesterday.
  16. First place is now within our reach. If the Cubs don't overtake Pitt and KC with this stud on the team I don't know what other moves Hendry could do to make it better.
  17. And then Hendry's going to put him in the pen until the surgery. He should be ready by the spring.
  18. I wonder if he brought his lawyer to translate for him?
  19. And my comment about Neifi being like the coach's kid, which is quoted in Mizzou's sig...for which I say thanks, BTW. It's too bad Dusty doesn't manage to win instead. Yeah I know, he wants to win but man....he really does do some bonehead things. Constantly. Dusty creates an atmosphere that players like. Players are happy and play well and win. His managing has always been week.Teams have won in spite of his managing. His teams expect to win... Until the end of 2004 here... Williamson and Murton don't sound happy to me. Dusty keeps crappy players happy by over playing them, other than that I see nothing that he adds to a team.

  21. Nice job Scott! He must have read my sig.
  22. You just can't break up a dynasty like this. Almost 100 million dollars and the third worst record in MLB....that isn't easy to do.
  23. I'd put ARod at SS and trade Cedeno plus other for a third baseman. Or, I'd put ARod at 3B and trade Prior, Cedeno and others to Baltimore for Tejada. I think what makes ARod so valuable is that he puts up incredible numbers for a SS and very good numbers for a 3rd baseman.
