  1. I like Priors ability but I've always doubted his mental toughness. I hope he pitches well and before the trading deadline somebody really overpays for him.
  2. Well...he likes fountain drinks instead of soda/pop out of a bottle or can and eats with a spoon....very seldom does he use a fork. His wifes name is Sally and he has 3 children, Ren, Stimpy and Snow. He hates good byes and cries while watching soap opera's. He drives a 2002 Mercury Sable and lives in Georgia. I don't know anything about his managing abilities. OK...I do. He's a hard nosed dude that won't take no guff from no one. He has pretty much won every where he's gone except for his stay at Houston. He's old school and will match up with Hendry/Hughes very well IMO. In other words...Hendry should be unemployed sometime in 2007.
  3. Yeah, not getting on base or hitting for power can really zap a teams offensive stats.
  4. I was there too while he played for the Indians and he was about as popular as a minor leaguer could be, I think. Not sure about his stats, but it always seemed like he was a career AAAA player as he did well at Indy but very rarely got to get up to the majors. The city loved him back in those days. A manager that might know baseball....now that's a very nice concept. IMO Hendry is going to go to the yell and scream let's get the job done type of manager. He saw what Leylend did at Detroit and he often has to copy success. I'm getting ready for a retread to manage the Cubs.
  5. If the Cubs do keep Baker around I see him riding Z into the ground and that worries me. He's the best horse Baker has and he's going to ride him until he breaks.
  6. I agree. But if JH thinks we'll turn around quickly & compete in '07, he'll probably want both of those guys. I wouldn't mind seeing Maddux & Dempster (among many others) traded though. Teams love veteran SP and I'd like him to deal now when there are a lot of teams who have a shot at the playoffs (thus more bidders). Teams also love "proven" closers. I don't think Dempster has proven much w/ just one season of work, but if someone will value him as a "proven" closer - I deal him now. Yes indeed....if Dempster is considered a closer by the right team a nice haul could be made by Hendry. I think Maddux needs the perfect situation and I think he would be a tough move by the Cubs because of all the circumstances that would go with trading him. What teams need a closer?
  7. I think players like Wallace are perfect for teams that have a Jordan Type player. A guy that can get off 30 shots and not worry about passing as Wallace doesn't need to touch the ball like Rodman didn't.
  8. I think it will help though. Baker won't be around to make the pitchers throw too many pitches and maybe some young guys will get a shot and we can see what they have going into 2007. With Baker staying you'd have the vets getting way too much time.
  9. I think if you have players that just hit the ball and don't get on base other than a hit you are taking a chance by counting on them to always get a hit. Small works if you have pitching and the scores are low as you can push across a run when you need it but when your pitching is bad too you are not going to be able to do that either and since the Cubs made a push for that type of offense they have been getting crushed. I also think losing has something to do with it as the mental fatigue can be over whelming to some and you can't have that type of thinking going on as hitting a baseball is hard enough as it is. Now in a perfect world....Pierre hit 300/340 from the beginning and Lee was never hurt you would have seen a different team IMO, hitting wise anyways. Add to that Baker not putting Perez in as often as he does and just letting Murton hit without interference from Baker/Clines. I think this team would have been decent.
  10. I suppose Baker hasn't figured it out and never will that he may have been a big part of the horses being down. That guy is as clueless as they come.
  11. How exactly does one "showcase" Glendon Rusch? He could be the Home Run Derby pitcher for the All-Star game.
  12. I think it might depend on what direction the Cubs go with Wood and Prior. If they let Wood go that's a lot of money that could go to Z and if they trade Prior than IMO they have to sign Z.
  13. I have always respected Hendry for keeping his word to players. I think the guys with the most value that can be traded are the middle relief guys Howry and Eyre. IMO teams really overpay for those types of players.
  14. It's too bad it's taken Hendry too long to be able to read it though. Beggars can't be chosers I suppose. If this does happen, it shouldn't take Baker long to find a new job since he hasn't done anything wrong in his whole coaching career.....according to him. Yikes....what if the overhaul is having even more vets/horses on the team to please Baker? Or making Pie come up too early while keeping the Baker man around? This should be interesting.
  15. Me too. I'm thinking there will be little if any changes until someone higher on the food chain fires Hendry. Jimbo has lost all sense of reality---he's stuck in a corner ruled by his own ego, unable to accept that his plain is a grade A failure. He's not changing anything. Me 3. These people have an odd way of running a team.
  16. If the 2 of them are going to the side I want 2 out of the top 4 prospects and a top 10 along with the best third baseman prospect.
  17. Hendry just signed Mr. Ed so let's give it some time.
  18. I think Hendry could get more for them if he traded them separately.
  19. Why...his ERA went down didn't it?
  20. Short for...I have to find an excuse for the steroids being taken away. Why so quick to accuse? Because Baseball doesn't test their stars IMO. Maybe I'm wrong but I don't ttrust these people and I'd hate for the Cubs to get a steroid wonder. Also, this guy almost had the same build as Sosa when he started and now he's filled out big time.
  21. So you're an L$U fan eh? Just to keep in the theme of the thread! How's LSU look this year?
  22. Short for...I have to find an excuse for the steroids being taken away.
  23. But why would Atlanta want 43? Even if we paid all of his salary for this year, I don't seem them taking him. Or are you thinking there would be a 3rd team involved? To have a guy to replace Jones for the year. I agree with Vance he would just be part of it though.
  24. I wonder how much it costs to rehab a guy too? Miller made out like a bandit in this deal.
  25. Yes indeed it is. Signing Perez for 2/5 is going to tie the Cubs down especially since Hendry wouldn't eat a contract if his life depended on it. After moving Hundley in that wonderful deal it seems as if the magic is now gone and you'd think if no team is interested in Perez there may be a reason why.
