  1. Might be crazy enough to work. Hendry gambles on all types of pitchers injuries why not something like this. Besides if the Cubs have Johnny G(o)umms and Razor Shine on their team theys be soundin like ganstas. How do you pronounce Gomes anyway? Long O?
  2. You're right I'm sure we all could not agree on whoever Hendry picks. IMO the fans on this board will disagree about all of the transactions made by this team. It's up to Hendry to pick the right guy and give him some players and it's up to us to speak our opinion on the subject. Will the masses be right? Maybe. Will Hendry be right? Maybe. I like reading what choices posters here put up and it increases my knowledge of the subject. Yes I know that some will complain but if the Cubs are winning I'm sure the chemistry on the board will be just fine! Disclaimer...please don't play 650 ball from here on Cubbies because we might as well get a top 5 pick and go into 2007 strong! If the Cubs play .650 ball the rest of the way the Earth will be sucked into itself and vaporize. My 3 choices would be: Girardi Gonzalez Shines My first choice would be Girardi. I like what he's done in Florida this year. The fish would no doubt want some compensation though to let him go to Chicago. I think Girardi is untouchable and you're right he would cost some compensation and once again Hendry is a day late and a dollar short. I like your other two choices too. I give Rogers credit because I didn't know about Shines at all but I'd like to learn more about him. I just see a retread emotional tough guy being the Cubs manager in 2007.
  3. It's one of the most exciting plays in baseball IMO...a straight steal of home.
  4. Soon. When I first looked at this it said 'you should come out with one'. Now it says soon and it wasn't edited. Am I going crazy? I am not sure when they will be out, but all the ones I have seen in magazines have OSU at #1. Notre Dame is getting some also, and Athlon's has Oklahoma. They all have their flaws and there's no one that's a clear cut leader, but I like both of those two more than Ohio State. As an ND fan it pains me to say this, but they are not a #1 team. No way at all. I agree. They have a chance to win it all for sure, but they in no way deserve to be ranked #1 preseason. I'd put Ohio State for sure ahead of them, and Oklahoma, USC, Texas and a few others are also at least as deserving of preseason hype. Who does Oklahoma have at QB? I love the college football season and I'm jealous as heck at teams that can win and have 70-100 thousand fans at each game.
  5. But this is the slippery slope. Who plays CF for 2007? Would this force Hendry to sign Pierre to an extension? Would Hendry be comfortable with Pagan in CF for a year?

  7. 1M plus expenses. Hmm...some things the Cubs could have done with 1 million dollars: Hire a team of stat guys and roving coaches Put money into scouting and go international Give to DJAXX (the team) and other minor league teams to upgrade facilities Feed Rusch for a week
  8. Kruk then proclaimed it was the greatest signing since Reggie Jackson. Kidding....he really said ARod.
  9. Indeed. It was nice to flash back and see the scores updated, thanks!
  10. The best part is that he criticized/doubted the Mets no more than a minute later because "What happens if Glavine and Pedro go down?". Excellent. No way....this guy is sharper than I thought. Did he have any stock tips?
  11. Kruk really knows baseball because of that really funny thing he did when Johnson threw at him in the All-Star game. Good times. he preceded this comment about how he really didn't want to play in the ASG but the NL made him since the fans voted him in. Awesome. The guy is like a bad comedy. I can't believe he actually gets paid to be an analyst and that anyone would take him seriously.

  13. Good news. Now increase your trade value Mr. Howry.
  14. 2 more than 100 Thanks AF. Has Baker got anyone in the pen ready?
  15. How many pitches by Marshall so far? This is a reason why I want Baker gone now....he's going to prove a point and ruin the rest of the arms.
  16. Plenty of high quality baseball players have been acquired by trading away relievers. But it doesn't just have to be a 1 man deal. Throw him in with Walker, Jones or Pierre and the deal could be sweetened. Jon Garland/Matt Karchner leaps to mind. Who did the Cubs trade to Pitt for that right handed middle relief pitcher in 2003? I can't remember his name....either I suppose. It wasn't Pitt and I don't think it was '03, but are you talking David Weathers? Yeah, Weathers!
  17. I think that pretty much says Baker is not being fired next week. As I pointed out earlier, Bruce's article today stated that Baker's job was safe for the moment also. Would Baker sacrifice his coaching staff to keep his job? Since nothing is his fault, why not?
  18. I don't know, dealing with media quotes can be separate from what is going on behind the scenes. Give Balt. and Patterson credit for his improvements and hope the Cubs have taken something from this beyond what they rec'd in return. I'm with you there. I HAVE to hope that Hendry can learn and adapt.
  19. If something is going to happen, I don't see why not next week. If nothing was going to happen, Hendry would say so, he always has in the past. GMs don't talk about "evaluating everything" without bringing out the axe. I just don't see how "he will use the four-day break to decide whether an overhaul is in order" means he's going to fire Baker and the whole coaching staff next week. Especially after the 4 day break. Maybe I'm reading too much into his comments. Maybe he wil fire Baker Sunday night and then evaluate the rest of the team over the next 4 days. Still, I'll believe it when I see it. I wouldn't say he's definitely firing the guy. But Hendry said throughout the freefall that he'd give Baker the chance to manage with a more healthy team. He's got them all back, and now Hendry is changing his statements. Baker has insinuated that Hendry failed to put a good team together, and Hendry has said that despite all the bad luck, they shouldn't be this far below .500. In reality he doesn't need the 4 days to evaluate. But that's just something GMs say when they don't want to say "I'm really thinking about firing the guy and blowing the whole team up but I'm not sure I want to pull the trigger just yet and I want to get my plans in order to handle the fall-out. Plus, I need to talk to guys about filling the vacancies." Good point. He has to find a suitable manager first which means Spier isn't on his list.

  21. I say a kick butt in your face manager that stresses fundamentals. That's who Mr. Hendry is going to pick for manager and get the gosh darn players that'll fit the bill. Yes sir that's my answer.
  22. Didn't he do really well in 2005 in AA?
  23. Hendry has to make a move...why not be consistant?
  24. Please no. "Come on Tom...for old times sakes?" "Sorry....can't do it for ya Sally."
