  1. The contact chart hypnotized me and when I stared at it for 2 minutes straight it said this word.....glavin. Let me know if I read this right but did it look as if Pie's stats went down from the early part of the year? If so, why? His lack of adjustments, injury, pitchers making better adjustments, tired? Also, IMO if a player, even if they let a few strikes go by, can learn to read a pitch better by doing that....they will be better off in the long run. It's the one step back 2 steps forward IMO. He's missing those strikes by taking but if he really learns and I'm hoping Joshua is helping with this, he will be a complete hitter. If he gets down on himself after letting those go by he'll just be another low OBP guy unless he has a heck of a batting average. Thanks for the breakdown...pretty cool stuff.
  2. We have future plans??? Aren't we in year eight of the famed "five year plan"? :x Inflation has pushed it to 12.
  3. Welcome to the Twilight Zone, ladies & gents. I swear there's a little creature on the wing of the plane! It's Perez for God's sake!!!! Get him off or we'll crash!
  4. Guess who also has a bad BA and ranks last in runs? But the Cubs have a better batting average and once that clutch hitting comes through you better watch out!
  5. Zidane claims he's a man and couldn't take hearing the trash talk anymore. It's too bad he thought of himself instead of the team. I just don't understand all this "I'm a man" I hear from athletes all time. This is how you prove you're a man?
  6. Very good article. It also says something about Hendry too when you're talking about the leadoff guys but Baker and his conventional wisdom likes leading guys off that shouldn't bat above the 8 slot. It's nice to see the abuse point system out there and with Wood and Prior at the top many some will figure out there really is a pattern out there. The horses are broken because they were rode into the ground.
  7. I tried but I just can't listen to the Pumpkins, they just don't do it for me.
  8. I just simply want to see this team go in a direction that would help them in 2007. If I see a Perez, Rusch and Nevins team out there starting and Guzman Theriot and Hill left in the minors then this season has almost been a completely wasted year. Cedeno, Marshall and Marmol have helped make it better and IMO...."saved" the season. Murton has been ok and I expect him to improve. The teams record is a moot point to me from here on as I just want to see growth as an organization.
  9. Have you ever seen the Clash live? you couldn't drag me kicking and screaming Great show and tons of energy.
  10. Have you ever seen the Clash live?
  11. No, that would be Pearl Jam. "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" is a pretty dumb song though. This song is one of the reasons they broke up. They were going (Joe Strummer and Mick Jones) in different directions and this song pretty much said what happened. Joe fired Mick from the band so they could go back to their roots and sadly it never really worked out for either after the breakup.
  12. Old Genesis was a very good band but the Phil Collins 3 not so much. The Pistols were a ground breaker and this one was hard for me but I went with Genesis.
  13. I think Fontenot did something to somebody to make him disliked by this organization. I don't understand why he hasn't been called up at any time even though he did ok in his brief stay in 2005.
  14. I'd like to see Andy kicked upstairs to the MLB front office. Let's hope for a nice sweep and new leadership for this team from the top to the bottom by the end of 2006.
  15. They have to have some toolsey underachiever in the minors somewhere that Hendry could move an impact hitter like ARam for. Hmm...Hendry and Baker. Could they be Ebony and Ivory? Working together for perfect harmony?
  16. Maybe some thought it was the swear check on NSBB?
  17. Imo it would be like hitting a broken bone with a hammer. Fortunately it sounds like Piniella wouldn't be interested until the offseason. I was hoping never myself. After what went on with the young kids in Tampa I'm sure Sweet Lou wants to win now with vets. I think the Cubs could put out a competitive team next year but if Guz and Hill get a shot this year they may be ready to pitch in the rotation and I just do not see Lou throwing>Z, Prior, Marshall,Guzman, Marmol and Hill. I still want Marmol as closer.
  18. Let's just wait and see what happens. Z is a pretty tough kid and sometimes these things look worse than they are. I don't believe in curses and I never will and this is something that should have never happened. My 10/11 girl softball players know not to be near a guy swinging a bat Z should have known too. Now, if Z was already standing there doing the interview and Cora walked up and swung....that is a completely different matter.
  19. Imo it would be like hitting a broken bone with a hammer.
  20. If Hendry did this right Todd coulda been a contenda. I say trade Walker and extend Baker for another 3 years. This would make everything just right.
  21. I was thinking last night about my two favorite Cub 2nd baseman Ryne and Manny Trillo. Both changed postions...Ryne from 3rd and Manny from Catcher. I just want to start seeing impact players coming out of the system and if EPatt doesn't cut it at 2nd then let's try Moore especially if Ramirez is signed long term. I'm just looking for a good player that can come up and start every 2 years from the minors...is that un realistic? Of course if Baker read that question he'd be thrilled and say "Yeah, I could start a rookie once a year every 2 years." Murton was last year and it's time for another one in 2007. I understand that it won't happen exactly once every two years but as an average.
  22. You mean cheap money. Hendry doesn't let anyone go if it costs the Cubs money. See Rusch for a good example of this. That's not completely true, he let Sosa go and it cost the Cubs a ton of money. Also no announcement, if there is going to be one, will be made until Wed at the earliest. Baseball does not want anything to take away from what has become a joke of an All-Star game. Fire Dusty and oust Bud Selig He still traded Sosa and didn't outright release him and butchered that in the process.
  23. Well Mr. Hendry is still evaluating on what to get a Beta or VHS VCR, so it may take awhile.
  24. He wasn't good defensively either. I assume you're being sarcastic, since Mazeroski is perhaps the best defensive second baseman of all time. That's all well and good, but a career OBP under .300 is what it is - terrible. And if you're going to let Maz in the HOF because of his defensive prowess, what about Santo's five Gold Gloves at third base? He wasn't exactly a butcher either. For fear of hijacking the thread, I don't think he belongs because in addition to being inadequat offensively, I do not think Maz was good defensively. He may have a nice number of Gold Glove awards, but I think that probably speaks more to the overall lack of talent at that position during his era. I think he had 23 errors one year that he won. Edit: After further review, he won the GG twice with 23 errors. I'm not a "in the good old days" type guy but IMO scorekeepers actually gave players errors for balls they should have caught unlike the modern scorekeepers that are threatened when they say it's an error. I also think that's a small reason why ERA's were better then.
