  1. They kept hearing about how great he was last year and started to believe it. Well he did have all those hits you know.
  2. I'll never understand why the Cub pitchers just don't throw the stupid ball down the middle of the plate when Pierre is up. They seem to make him so much better than he is.
  3. I think you could add Ken Griffey Jr to that list. I think that's the thing that makes the game so interesting, so many things have to go right for you to have the ultimate career.
  4. Alan Dunn was minor league pitching coordinator (much like Dave Keller is minor league hitting coordinator). However, he was recently hired by another team as bullpen coach at the major league level (I believe by the Orioles, but I'm not positive). I'm not sure if he's been replaced in the Cubs' system yet or if it was close enough to the end of the minor league season that they're waiting until the offseason. Thanks NCCF. With pitchers being such a valuable resource I don't understand why they don't have someone over seeing them and doing things the right way as an organization.
  5. Well, just like Hendry is in charge of the major league team, Fleita is in charge of player development. It may be that he's hired the wrong men to actually coach, but he's in charge, so blame for anything related to development has to flow up to him. I wonder what he's having them do that is different from other teams?
  6. 1-0 cubs Thanks. What inning is it? The proper response to this question is: Nuthin 'nuthin. Whose winning? Da Bears. I see....too many notes.
  7. 1-0 cubs Thanks. What inning is it? top 5 and Marquis is umm ummm umm looking good. Hint hint hint I don't get your joke and now your scaring me. Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. 1-0 cubs Thanks. What inning is it? Top 5. Thanks.
  9. Thanks Truffle....that was great!
  10. http://www.awn.com/mag/issue1.4/images/Schecter/Schechter6.gif[/im g] I think Fred actually went to high school with Flintstone and has often commented on how hot Betty was. Having Soto catch against a team with 2 guys that like to run like Furcal and Pierre shows me that Lou might actually have a little confidence in him. Baker would have had Lenny Harris catch instead of Soto because of that reason. Im not one of the guys who says a catchers D is the most important thing, but honestly with Kendall his non throwing ability is beyond ridiculous. Its to the point basically that if our pitchers walk somebody with just decent speed, or gives up a single, its automatically becoming a double. I know our pitchers dont hold runners on that well, but Kendalls throws havent even been close. I mean for all the talk there was of Barrets defensive shortcomings, his throwing ability was 10x's better than Kendalls. Since I know Lou is going to give Kendall ample playing time, I really think Lou needs to look at the other team and see what kind of speed they have, and determine the catcher based on that. Also, Kendall needs to be taken out of close games in the later innings. Since we have 3 catchers on our roster it makes the most sense. Kendall, from what I've seen does a nice drop and block but you're right, his arm is very weak and it hurts the team if anyone is smart enough to take advantage. Unless Kendall is doing a 300/380 line he is hurting the team behind the plate. I wonder how the Cub pitchers feel about him and how confident they are with him behind the plate.
  11. A kid shows up late for practice or a game and he doesn't play...period. Hopefully this will wake up Patterson unless he had a real excuse for being late like finishing his degree at GT or a Dr. appointment.
  12. Do the Cubs have a floating pitching coach that goes throughout the system? I don't know if I'd blame Fleita for this problem.
  13. I'm always interested in upgrading every position, especially one of weakness like the Cubs have at the SS position in the minors. I'm fine with Theriot as I'd like to see upgrades at C,CF and RF more than the SS position. I'd like to see Soto get a shot at starting C and that would make it a cheap up the middle if they have Theriot, Soto and Pie there so hopefully that frees up money for a impact bat in right.
  14. As long as the Cubs finish in first, I'm happy. The Brewers have a very good farm system, do they not? I'm sure they could move a player or two to bump up the starting staff and fill in the bullpen with free agents. They remind of the 2003 Cubs only in reverse when it comes to young talent, they have hitting while the Cubs had pitching. I'm curious to see if they make the same stupid mistakes the Cubs did after their surprise good year.
  15. Just hope that you don't sit next to anyone that's really overweight because those seats are too small for a size zero model.
  16. that's a very good point. I agree. I really do have a lot of faith in Lou and hopefully he'll help Hendry see the light.

  18. Thank God Syracuse is playing 2 Big 10 teams in a row, we will finally get a breather in the schedule until we play some tough teams in the Big East. :D Hey Bob....how are those big Iowa boys of yours this year? We're going to make your defensive line look like All-Americans this weekend.
  19. I hate the Dodgers...come on Cubs, kick some LA booty!
  20. I think the question is about Hendry and what would or can happen to him if this signing backfires. Please post about Z's behavior on the other Z thread please. Thanks http://www.northsidebaseball.com/PremiumForum/viewtopic.php?t=43853&start=160
  21. I have a feeling that Jim did a lot of persuasion. Otherwise the contract would have been done a lot sooner than it was. Remember, Jim, Z, and Pavner all wanted it done a long time go. I don't know how much persuasion Hendry has and no matter how much he does have the guy who ultimately signs the check has to take this on his shoulders as well.
