  1. maybe its just hold overs from the days when the Cubs short season affiliate was the Emeralds, but when I spent a year at U of O, just about every student that was from the state of Oregon were Cubs fans. the rest all had loyalties to various Cali teams. Really? I wonder why? I would have never thought that. This Cal/Duck game should be an over 60 at least.
  2. Yes, they certainly are Amazing. Those Fish are quite annoying to the ex 69 foes.
  3. I wonder why you're rooting for Illinois? :D Man, ND is terrible. Maybe Bill should let Charlie borrow a camera or two.
  4. College Game Day were showing the Oregon fans and one held up a Cub pin! Now I have to root for the Ducks!
  5. Thanks! This playoff thing has just became a lot more fun!
  6. Maybe their first place team should lose to a D2 team?
  7. So you're saying they would be undefeated in the Big 10? And since you brought in the past, in the past 2 bowl games they scored 38 on Georgia and they are from the greatest conference in the history of conferences and the same on Georgia Tech. It's funny how their only loses are in the BE.
  8. Are you guys having fun yet? The Cubs are just toying with the Fish and then they're going to smoke em in the 5th.
  9. Because you touch yourself at night. Then he would be blind and not be able to watch, which might not be a bad thing right now.
  10. hey, man, tell us how you really feel. He's just upset that Jose Moran was kicked off of Dancing with the Stars.
  11. As a Cub: Barrett gave up 32 steals, 7 CS, for a 17.9 CS% in 52 starts Kendall gave up 50 steals, 5 CS, for a 9.1 CS% in 47 starts Interesting. Thanks.
  12. understand...and agree. For instance, two players at Texas, Sergio Kindle and Henry Melton, were charged with DWI. Is a three game suspension enough punishment for that type of offense? ..probably not. Last season, Auburn linebacker, Trey Blackmon, was arrested for underage drinking. Tuberville suspended him for four games. To me, drinking and driving is a much more severe offense than underage drinking. What prevents the NCAA from setting some type of standard in these scenarios instead of deferring to the respective head coaches? I suppose they (NCAA) would hope to let the coaches or AD's or Presidents take charge but God forbid they do because they'd be jumped on like a dog in heat. Also, a lot of the punishments depend on how big of an impact player they are or who they are playing in the future. You bet a DWI is worse than underage drinking.
  13. For the millionth time, it's a matter of degrees. Barrett was below average in most defensive aspects and occasionally made some dumb decisions. He was also one of the best offensive catchers in baseball. Kendall is physically incapable of throwing anyone, anyone, out on the basepaths, and at his best he provides plus OBP with zero XBH. They are different situations. I actually think Kendall is a better "receiver" than Barrett. I also trust his leadership more, which is crucial in a catcher. He'd better have leadership coming out of his ears for it to be worth turning every walk and base hit into a double for our pitchers. Don't be ridiculous. That may be the worst exaggeration on this board all week. I will apologize if someone can produce the stat which backs this up. You don't make your case very well when you make silly statements like this. His CS% as a Cub is pretty easily the worst of any catcher who's gotten regular time(save Josh Bard, and he's catching several of the most notoriously "slow to the plate" SP in baseball). He's given up 50 steals in 47 starts. More than once a game teams are taking a free base off of him, and he throws out a pathetic < 10% of them. It's not an exaggeration to say that Kendall's presence compared to Soto is going to cost the team multiple bases, considering in his short stint Soto has been 3 times more effective throwing people out. And what were Barretts numbers throwing out runners this year?
  14. to expand on this , even though it has been already. does anyone think Lou has anything against Marshal? He definetly is at par with the others these days. He doen't even use him in long term relief. Imo he's letting him rest his arm and since Hart has stepped up Marshall doesn't have to pitch long relief.
  15. Even if the experience tells you definitively that you are playing one of the weakest defensive catchers in the league? I'm not with you [-( This year Barrett did worse than Kendall and I didn't see too many people yell about that and Barrett may be worse defensively than Kendall too. the switch-a-roo so many have done on the need for defense out of catcher has been rather nauseating. the benefit of defense out of a catcher was one of the most intense debates on this board in May, June, and July. Hendry acquires a catcher who's not too handy with the glove and arm, and suddenly there is no debate. suddenly everyone seems to agree that we need good defense out of our catcher. I agree that Soto is the best choice because he's better at both defense and hitting which I hope has been the argument and not the sudden focus on D.
  16. Even if the experience tells you definitively that you are playing one of the weakest defensive catchers in the league? I'm not with you [-( This year Barrett did worse than Kendall and I didn't see too many people yell about that and Barrett may be worse defensively than Kendall too. Really? I saw tons of criticism over Barrett's play. Anyhow, if Barrett was playing like he did earlier and Soto was being left on the bench for reasons of grit, I feel certain I would feel the same way as I do now. Especially in late September. There was criticism over his D but his bat kept a lot of posters on his side. I agree there's a + - on what to do but when I keep seeing that Kendall is the worst D Catcher while having an above average bat (for a catcher) while with the Cubs and Barrett was just as horrible or worse defensively and that was brushed aside while Barrett hit well, I just see a lot of contradiction there.
  17. Even if the experience tells you definitively that you are playing one of the weakest defensive catchers in the league? I'm not with you [-( This year Barrett did worse than Kendall and I didn't see too many people yell about that and Barrett may be worse defensively than Kendall too.
  18. Being a Cub fan in September brings out the woman in you. I think they might be the most mature posters on this site so this would be a good thing.
  19. I'll be there with Jen, Bailey, Les, Venus and the Fever! We'll be dropping turkeys from a helicopter as a promotional thing too.
  20. anybody that roots for a major college program and thinks that the athletes on the team are students of the same caliber as the average student at that school is kidding themself. Maybe not but some schools prefer to have kids that are not students in any capacity. Winning and doing it "the right way" is almost impossible because of these schools. Do they really prefer to have kids on the team that aren't great students, or do they just do what they can to get the best football players/athletes that meet or exceed the minimum academic requirements? If the kids do meet or exceed the minimum NCAA academic requirements, then why would this not be considered winning the "right way"? Head coaches are under a lot of pressure to win and now. Most don't stay on the payroll because of how many of their wide receivers went on to medical school later in life. I somewhat understand your point. Schools such as Vanderbilt are at a disadvantage because they hold their athletes to a higher academic standard than the NCAA ...but the NCAA really needs to raise minimum requirements for any nationwide change to come into fruition. Not exactly. I'm talking about kids that are out of control and coaches that let them do as they want. These kids that get arrested all the time but yet still are able to play. Florida St really helps prove the point by making a kid second string after getting into a fight with some cops. Texas with 6 kids arrested, that's just this year. God only knows what Vick got away with at VTech and we saw what a jerk his brother was and Beamer did nothing until forced to. I'm all for giving a kid a chance but there comes a point when this is just getting plain ridicules. These are the ones we know about and not the ones that are swept under the rug. These kids are thugs with no one holding them accountable because of this pressure of winning. Look at all the SEC teams that go on probation, is there one that hasn't been? They skirt the rules by the skin of their teeth not just once or twice but constantly. I have no idea how Ohio State hasn't gotten in trouble.
