  1. I've heard that Koby wants to sign with Duke.
  2. Was Texas even considered a player then? I remember the Mets as being the leaders but the details are fuzzy regarding the other "leading" teams.
  3. Does anyone know what the record time is from home to second on a steal by a catcher is? What did Bench do it in?
  4. Investment, like buying a team and then playing on it?
  5. Maybe it's me but it seems the Fish like the Cub farm pitchers.
  6. I think the Fish would rather deal Miggy and keep him. The savvy investor would go your route.
  7. I'm a rabid fan of old school baseball and have seen footage of all types of players, including some rare footage of Honus Wagner and those types. But the only place I've ever seen any footage at all of Gibson is a few frames from his Baseball Hall of Fame video: http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers/detail.jsp?playerId=492568 Nothing from the Burns story about the Negro Leagues? I really enjoy watching a good catcher play.
  8. Couple of points... Evidently this deal was being discussed at the trade deadline. So its not like Hendry signing Soriano last year. These teams have had many conversations regarding this. At the time of the trading deadline the Braves still had hopes (valid or not) of getting in the playoffs. I'm sure they didn't want to trade away one of their best players. The reason Guillen "can't" play SS and Young and ARod can is IMO more due to injuries than ability. Just scrolling through KFFL, every other line on Guillen is sitting out a game because of groin, hamstring, shin, shoulder, knee, so on and so forth. The thought is that SS is too demanding on his body at this stage and he needs to move to 1B to stay in the lineup. I agree, this didn't get them over the hump, they need to improve at 3B and LF to be able to compete. So if the Tigers get ARod or Cabrera would that help? They seem to be a team that isn't afraid to make a move and I wouldn't be surprised if they made a huge signing or trade this off season.
  9. Wow...Santana, Cabrera and ARod all available or possibly available at the same time. This could be a very exciting off season.
  10. How much footage do they have on Josh Gibson, I'd like to see him play.
  11. That's probably because nobody got the Pirates' job yet. :D That could indeed have something to do with it!
  12. So what kind of steroids do you think they were?
  13. Does anyone know how Marvin is doing?
  14. sure you did, Mike He got the steroids from China.
  15. So Hendry can't buy any gum or candy then? I'd trade Soriano to the Yanks and sign ARod.
  16. I'm sure the Dodgers want to delay this Torre signing for as long as they can because of the lack of minorities being interviewed for managerial jobs. I forgot who got the Pirate job but if he isn't a minority MLB better or has to cover its butt regarding this.
  17. Dusty will be one happy man if he gets some quality players like that.
  18. Look who just became available... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3086562 Much like guys like Floyd, Jacque, Burnitz, etc., I'd be shocked if Jenkins isn't on Hendry's radar. :( Do the Cubs have an option like that in the minors? How do his (Jenkins) numbers compare to Jones and is he better defensively? IIRC Jenkins has a cannon for an arm, but hes not especially mobile. I think he ranked as a below averaged RF, but an above average LF. Hes always hit righties pretty well, but hes 33. His 3 year OPS progression vs righties is 922 to 871 to 808. Hes in the decline but can can probably still put up a decent part of the meaty end of a platoon over the next couple years. But he could also exponentially decline. The problem is that he put up a stink about being a platoon player in Milwaukee and will want a starting job and will probably be looking for a lot more money than should be spent on him. Thanks for the info. If he hates the platoon then he should go to the Reds.
  19. I can't believe he's 36 already. I still hate Colorado.

  21. And you would be comfortable with that?
  22. Maybe George can talk him into another old Yank to do it instead. What's Sparky Lyle doing these days?
  23. I don't understand why Cub fans keep saying this. The time to cut ties will be when neither shows they can pitch again. The Cubs have spent a lot of time and money on both and it would be foolish to let them both walk away with nothing in return. Sure everyone would love to see Wood and Prior revert to their 2003 form but a more realistic view is that one or both are healthy enough to knock Marquis from this staff. Is it less foolish to continue paying for their rehab and have them on the DL? I think depending on Wood to start is even more foolish, unless the Cubs have 2 arms ready in the minors to take over for him and 4 minor arms if they are depending on Prior + Wood and they deal Marquis.
  24. This issue just reminds me of a reoccurring nightmare, depend on Wood as a starter and re-sign Prior just in case he's healthy someday. Both players were talented but it's time to cut the ties.
