  1. He'd definitely have the best "short game" in the organization.
  2. Probably one of the same ways they've been doing most of the season.
  3. I believe the issue is how and when guaranteed money is paid. For example, a signing bonus of x amount could be made in installments versus all at once, etc.
  4. Aside from live sports, ESPN is going down a similar path that MTV did with regard to music.
  5. 83 That's the number of hits the Cubs have in their past 8 games (which includes a game of only 5 hits). 43 That's the runs they've scored in their last 8 games (including being shutout once), an average of almost 5 1/2 runs per game. 13 The number of runs the pitching staff has allowed, which includes 7 in one game. That's just over 1 1/2 runs per game. And all that leads to a record in their last 8 of: 7-1
  6. I'd actually be happy with a split in a four-game series.
  7. Did the Cubs just sweep the Orioles? On the road? With 2 shutouts? And 21-2 overall run differential??
  8. And since that 4 game win streak, the Cubs have only won back-to-back games three times. Sheesh!!
  9. Cubs have not won 3 in a row since April 23-26 (4 in a row) and, won 5 of 6 since April 20-26). Until these last 6 games.
  10. Shota had a tough time missing bats. Too many foul balls.
  11. The Bigge the bette.
  12. How ‘bout some mad props for former Cubs coach Brandon Hyde. Things started off really shaky in Baltimore as the Orioles lost 108 games in his first season as manager. After the abbreviated Covid season, his team lost 110 games in 2021. But he fianally righted the ship with 83 wins in ‘02 and the over 100 wins last year. And they’re on pace again for 100+ this year. Kudos to you, Mr. Hyde!!!
  13. Every single game for the past two months seems to be as tough, if not tougher, than on paper.
  14. Cubs since the start of this thread playing .333 ball, record of a robust 14-28. Cards 25-15 in same time period, about to go 26-15. The Cardinals aren’t leading the division, but their earlier demise has been greatly exaggerated,.
  15. I think in my very long life, I’ve seen catcher interference like twice at the big league level. What is this, Amaya’s 4th horsefeathers time this season.
  16. I am not well-versed enough in most of these "new" stats, but I did look at these numbers in BS. And as a team, the Cubs are second worst/unlucky in xBA and xSLG, and third worst in xwOBA. These numbers have to get better, right?
  17. No, Hendricks wouldn't be a great option as a starter, period. But he would only start one out of every five games. At least the Cubs would MAYBE have a decent option with Assad tried as a closer in the other four starts, assuming this limp-dick offense could actually score runs. And they wouldn't need to stick Hendricks in the rotation. Wesneski seems better suited as a starter than a reliever. But there's also a bunch of dudes floating around professional baseball who couldn't be worse starting than what Hendricks has shown this season. And I'd rather keep Brown in the rotation (once he's healthy, whenever that will be)
  18. Maybe. But I would think that what he says and what he actually does may be two different things. I mean, is he really gonna throw Neris under a bus? Figuratively-speaking. I'd be all for it literally-speaking.
  19. Cliff on the postgame just made an interesting comment. Assad has been great as a starter. But do you give him the ball in the 9th with a lead? He just gets people out. And you have 3 other really good starters with Brown and Wicks eventually coming back from injury. Might be easier to get another starter (Smyly) than a closer.
  20. Cubs are 16 for 32 in Save situations.
  21. Well, they finally did. In just 32 games. First place after 38 games with a 22-16 record facing a difficult schedule. 32 games later, and an 11-22 record over that span, and Cubs find themselves as the lone cellar dweller in the Central. Job well done!
  22. Jose Abreu is the next "answer", right? Or was it "Garrett Cooper 2.0" ? Didn't think so. *
