  1. After living in AZ for the past 5 1/2 years, I'm hoping to finally get up to Mesa for a game or two this spring.
  2. LInk to video on "take out" slide Pretty good video with a focus on the Chase Utley/Ruben Tejada incident. Amazing to look back at what used to be legal just a few decades back. The video is 19 minutes but a pretty enjoyable watch if you have the time.
  3. I have never been less interested in a Superb Owl in my entire life. My preference is neither team win, but that can’t happen. I’ll probably watch and hope my numbers hit. That’s about it.
  4. As a person who’s had 4 hernia repair surgeries, I can say that they can very often have minimal impact on daily life. And some hernias don’t even require surgery. Not suggesting Dansby didn’t need surgery or could’ve waited. Just suggesting that it makes sense to me that he and his teams may not have thought hernia surgery was immediately necessary.
  5. Isn’t his salary only $1 million this year with the remaining $5 paid in equal parts for 15 years starting in 2038?
  6. So the Dodgers now have 8 starting pitchers who would each be a TOR guy on most MLB teams. right?
  7. Not a fan. They look like unis for an "over 40" softball league.
  8. My take as a Packers fan, having watched many McCarthy-coached seasons, is that he would absolutely be good for Caleb Williams. He was a "QB whisperer" early in his coaching career. He helped Favre at the end of his career, coached up Rodgers (look at his early mechanics), and has done well with Dak. I know Bears fans don't want an older coach and/or retread, but he would bring stability, experience, and winning to the Bears. And I think he'd be a great fit for Williams.
  9. The next time Jordan Love overthrows his WR on a deep ball will be the first time he overthrows his WR on a deep ball in a really, really long time. Funny thing is that he has a lot of arm strength. He just never seems to get the deep pass well beyond the defender, always seems a tad underthrown.
  10. I would be extremely comfortable if the Bears are facing the Packers' Jordan Love for the next 10 seasons as well.
  11. I think comparing Love to Favre and Rodgers career talent is really not realistic/fair, especially after just two seasons. Favre and Rodgers are first-ballot HoFers and two of the greatest QBs of all time. The Packers had to give him the big contract last season because it was coming up on year 4 of his initial contract. I think Packers fans annointing him as the "next one" after last season was a bit premature. But I also think that labeling him as nothing special after year 2 (as a starter) is also a bit premature. Using early Favre as a comparison, his first season starting for the Packers was pretty special. BUt in year 2 as a starter, he led the league in INTs. Packers fans had no idea what to make of the "ol' gunslinger". He seemed to make 2 bad decisions for every remarkable play. But year 3 proved to be a pretty spectacular season followed by 3 consecutive MVPs. And then a "Superb Owl" win. I don't know that Love will ever be HoF material, but he doesn't have to be. He just needs to build on his first two seasons as a starter and improve. And I think getting a receiving corp with some experience will help. The WR/TE with the most experience just finished their third season. Anyway, as I mentioned in another thread, I didn't think the Packers were going to go very far in the playoffs. They just didn't seem to ever be able to put four quarters together in a game. ONwatd and upward to the Draft and then the 2025 season! Go Pack Go!!
  12. The irony of something being funny before no longer being funny as linked to David Letterman has not gone unnoticed.
  13. The "salary cap" in the NFL, much like posted speed limits, is merely a suggestion.
  14. ^^This is who I think will be representing. Obviously, I'd prefer the Packers be in, but I think their record is a little better than the team is, and I don't see them beating Philly. That said, not including the Packers, I'd like to see the Bills beat the Rams.
  15. This is a big question most fans have. I actually have no problem with the TO when he took it because I think LaFleur wanted time to decide if he would kick or go for it on 4th down.
  16. For different reasons, but this is/was vintage Sean Payton with Brees. Saints would be up handily with minutes left in the game and Payton/Bress are chucking 30-50 yards passing, running up the score and padding Brees' stats (often).
  17. I’m not specifically comparing Morel to Happ or anyone else. My point is more was expected from three everyday veterans for the first couple months of the season. And this attributed, IMO, greater to the Cubs lack of success than Morel’s woes. As did the pitching issues that seemed to be there all year.
  18. Happ was pretty bad in March/April and May. He was great in June. I’ll maintain that his lack of offensive output the first two months of the season played a bigger role in wins/losses than Morel’s lack of production.
  19. I would argue horrendous first halves by Happ, Hoerner, and Swanson, and the initial injuries to the starting rotation which had a trickle effect with the BO, followed by the closer being bad because of injury followed by being out because of injury all played much bigger roles in the Cubs first half struggles.
  20. Morel got almost half the season playing 3B in 2024. Certainly Shaw could get as many and not be infinitely worse, right? That gives the Cubs until the July/trade deadline (sort of) to come up with a replacement if Shaw ain't cuttin' it.
  21. Josh Jacobs is having a huge season. But he's being outshined by two RBs having "huger" seasons.
  22. I'm not suggesting the Cubs should not have traded for Tucker and/or have traded away Parades. I was merely referencing the post by Bertz regarding with Paredes' balls in play from last year overlayed at MinuteMaid. Unless I'm reading it incorrectly, Looks like Paredes would've had a whole bunch of HRs just by playing in MM. I'm sure Tucker will hit with plenty of power at Wrigley or really anywhere.
