  1. How 'bout a package with Voglebach as the centerpiece.
  2. Man on third and less than two outs: the Cubs Achilles heel the last couple of months.
  3. Shoemaker is really good in Anaheim. He's really not very good everywhere else.
  4. Gerritt Cole took the day off today: 4 IP, 5/4 R/EER, 7H, 2 BB, 5 K, 80 pitches. Samardzija not much better so far: 3 IP, 4H, 5/4 R/ER, 3BB, 3K, 2 dingers allowed.
  5. Spent the day playing paintball. Left my phone in the car. Lower back is stiff. Lots of welts all over my body especially my left side. I'm exhausted. I feel a little dehydrated. It's nice to get back to the car and check the score to see the Cubs win again. Life is good.
  6. Dexter's hammy is fine. He is, however, still smarting from getting hit in the junk with that kid's whiffle bat.
  7. Maybe they're recoiling him for eventual move to the pen.
  8. Can he hit a curve? Or lay off the slider down and away? Jorge wants to know.
  9. Where's the Bosio magic. Basically, his entire pitching staff has horsefeathers the bed for a couple of weeks now. Thought he was a genius??
  10. From Cubs.com: "Fowler, voted onto his first All-Star team, began a rehab assignment Friday night at Class A South Bend and went 0-for-2 with two walks. He did not have a setback in the game, but decided he needed more time and would not be ready for Tuesday's All-Star Game......
  11. And 5-14 in their last 19. Horrid.
  12. This is as exciting to me as the slam dunk contest in the NBA. They still have that, right?
  13. Ditto. It's so much easier to watch a sucky team with dreams of them being good one day than it is to watch a very good team play sucky for an extended period of time. :(
  14. Bill Buckner is my all-time favorite Cub! Was constantly trying to emulate his batting stance with a black whiffle bat as a kid.
  15. My, how times have changed. Wonder if the Cubs will win their 60th before their 40th loss. :(
  16. Manny Trillo and Jose Cardenal were my first two favorite Cubs. Love the way Trillo gloved the ball, took it out for inspection before side-arming it to first base. And Cardenal had one hell of a fro.
  17. Matt Carpenter just pulled in the second inning and replaced by Wong. Maybe an oblique. Not good for him/them.
  18. And the Reds, too.
  19. Mike Stanton pissed he was left off the All-Star roster (not really): 2 Dongs (412 & 417 feet) and 5 RBI. Fish up on the Mets 5-2 in the bottom of the 8th. Fernando Rodney gonna try not to blow another save opportunity game for his new team, though he gave up a dong in the bottom of the 8th.
  20. Seriously...I expected regression but damn. 1.1 IP 8 ER for Lester, 4 IP 10 ER for Hammel, now Lackey working on 2 IP 4 ER after 4.1 IP and 7 ER the last time out Second run in the first inning was unearned, I believe.
  21. for quite some time now, the opposing batters are getting the Cub pitchers into long ABs. Even when the Cub pitchers are throwing strikes, the opposing batters seem to do a good job of fouling pitches off.
  22. Maybe Pete Rose was right. Nah, he's a douche!
  23. League average, the runner scores 51% of the time. Cubs are at 53% of the time, which is tied for 10th in MLB. Cubs's BA is .373 in these situations, which is 7th in MLB. Thanks, I'm a bit surprised by this. Seems like the numbers would be worse. Maybe because it's so frustrating when they don't score, it just stands out more.
