  1. Well screw it, $10M per year is a bargain then! hahaha if only! I'm not posting the numbers to say that he'd do that in the NL over the full season. I'm not saying whether we should sign him or not, though I do like his upside. I AM just posting the numbers to add to our discussion. Arroyo's successful switch to the NL last year gives me hope that someone like Meche could also make a successful transition.
  2. MECHE 2006 Starts Against the NL: vs. SD: 7.2 IP, 5 Hits, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's vs. SF: 9.0 IP, 5 Hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K's vs. SD: 5.2 IP, 4 Hits, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K's vs. AZ: 7.0 IP, 4 Hits, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K's TOTALS: 29.1 IP, 18 IP, 7 ER, 4 BB, 24 K's .... 2.14 ERA, 0.74 WHIP
  3. They certainly have made some "dumbass" moves in the recent past, like Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez for Josh Beckett, and Bronson Arroyo for Willy Mo Pena. They'd be a much better team with Ramirez, Sanchez, and Arroyo back on their team.
  4. Fingers crossed. I'd be excited if the Cubs won the bidding. It's about time they enter the Japanese market. It'd also be one less rotation hole to fill! I like the attitude that Igawa appears to have. He and Z would be fun to watch. On an unrelated note, Vinestal, who is that in your avatar?
  5. Wow, he really does love Hill. He projects Hill to have better numbers than Zambrano though. I think we'll see big Z on some of those leader boards. I also think we'll see DLee on the leader boards as well. Where's the love for Lee??
  6. I hear what you're saying, but I don't agree. I think Westbrook, with his sinker, could be an excellent pitcher in the NL and in Wrigley in particular. I have more confidence in him as a 3rd starter than I do in Igawa, who's more of a control pitcher. I don't think Jones would necessarily have to be given up in a deal for Westbrook. The deal I've heard tossed around is something like: Marshall + Ohman/Eyre + Cedeno/Izturis. That said, I'd be happy with either of them.
  7. Hitting first, Soriano will have a significant more number at bats than if he hit 5th. Line up contstruction really only matters for the first time through the batting order. What does matter, is getting your best hitters the most amount of at bats. This happens if you hit your best hitters at the top. Heck, if we signed Drew, you could start the lineup: Soriano, Drew, Lee, Ramirez.
  8. I really like Floyd for the bench. He would surely be a much bigger threat as a pinch hitter in the 9th than someone like Bynum or Pagan. He could also DH when we play at an AL team. I don't forsee him starting or platooning with Murton. Here's where I think we are: 1b Lee 2B DeRosa SS Izturis 3B Ramirez C Barrett RF Soriano CF ?? LF Murton Theriot is the first bat off the bench for the IF. He could nab the starting job at 2b or SS with continued excellence. I'm still hopeful we make a run at Drew for CF. Just say no to GMJ. I don't see him repeating what he did last year. If we can't get Drew, I'd try to sign Roberts, or trade for Badelli, as a stopgap for Pie.
  9. Dunno, but I would do Murton for Westbrook straight up, especially if we ink Soriano and Drew as rumored. Only if Westbrook was locked up longterm. Even then, I'm not sure. It's probably fair, but I'm just really bias toward Murton. He's my fav. player. Besides, I don't think the Indians really want/need an outfielder. We really need to trade from our strength, which is bullpen pitching and even young arms.
  10. Maybe JD Drew doesn't want to play for the Cubs? Maybe he thinks the organization is a freaking joke. He's rich beyond most of our wildest dreams. I suppose hendy's a bum because he hasn't cured cancer either? I know I'll catch nine kinds of hell from some of you, but it's cool. I'm just saying that as long as Hendry is making an honest run at these guys, that is all we can ask. He can't force anyone to sign on the dotted line. All of that is true. However, aside from a one sentence blurb by the notoriously uninformed Phil Rogers, what evidence is there that the Cubs are seriously in pursuit of Drew? We'll all have to wait and see. But even if Drew does sign that deal with Boston, it doesn't mean that Hendry was "asleep". We won't know. it was reported in a boston paper that the cubs were quote "seriously" persuing drew. the report came out this morning, just like rogers' article. i dont' trust rogers either, but i'm much more willing to trust the boston paper. it listed the red sox and the cubs as the two most serious bidders on drew.
  11. He had a simply amazing year in AA, then jumped directly to the majors. I think he has very good stuff yet. I was never confident with Aardsma and I don't think he would have made the bullpen this year. I like this trade. Cotts could be a candidate to start. But more likely I think this opens up the chance to trade Eyre (or Ohman).
  12. I like your signings, but I would be shocked if either Lugo or Soriano is signed for those prices. I think Lugo will get something like 4/32 and Soriano will be paid around 100 mil.
  13. So apparently the Yanks wanted Blanco, and were disappointed when the Cubs resigned him. Gotta like that.
  14. I'm all for Lugo at SS, but not for CF. In CF, I really want to see one of: Drew, Soriano, Wells, or A Jones.
  15. ...Or maybe Andruw Jones? An outfield of Murton, Jones, and Soriano would look good!
  16. Unless Lou asked Hendry to beef up the bench big time due to the day games and this might put a couple of young guys on the bench to save some dough.. Ding ding ding ding! I think you hit the nail on the head.
  17. Do the Cubs have that high hopes on EPatt that they would bring him in to camp for an actual competition for the starting 2nd base job? Seems to me they would bring him in just to throw him out there and get some "seasoning." Well EPatt is surely raising eyebrows in Arizona. While it would be somewhat of a surprise for EPatt to break camp with the Cubs, he will def be in Spring Training. If he continues to hit like he has been this fall, and he starts hot at Iowa, a callup would certainly be in order. If EPatt is ready, DeRosa will not be blocking him. Same with Theriot. If Theriot is not handed the SS position, he could also stake a claim to 2B. I see him breaking camp with the Cubs. If he performs in his playing time as well as he did last year, we will not see DeRosa block him. DeRosa is insurance, so we don't have a situation like we did with Cedeno last year. If EPatt or Theriot performs, they will play. If they don't, at least we have someone who can play everyday who will not stink. Further, he looks like a great platoon partner for Jones in RF. That I think we can count on. I do wish, however, that Hendry didn't pay so much. I'm not sure why the contact is for so much. But, hey, he promised Piniella a good bench. Looks like Lou will get one.
  18. I doubt we'll see him play 2B everyday. He'll play some at 2B, he'll back up Ramirez at 3B, and he'll platoon with Jones in RF. I expect him to get around 300-400 at bats. This number could go up or go down, depending on what Theriot and EPatt do with opportunities given to them.
  19. so did Jason Dubois It's a horrible comparison. Dubois was 25 in Triple A, Pie was 21. That's a huge difference. Pie has abilities that Dubois simply does not have. He has abilities that come along only once in a long while. If you're looking for a better comparison for your point, bring up Corey Patterson. (Though Pie and Corey are different players as well).
  20. So, a proven commodity (though it is only a solid and unspectacular commodity) in an area of great need is not worth as much as a prospect who is far from "can't miss" and won't be helpful for a couple of years even if he doesn't miss? Seriously? This reminds me alot of people who wouldn't trade Guzman, Kelton, Bobby Hill, or Choi several years ago. Until the Cubs produce a position player with a clue at the Major League level, I am all for dealing a "prospect" for a Major Leaguer who is a position of need. I think Pie could be helpful THIS year. Certainly by next year... Pie rates well about what Kelton or Hill ever did. He's produced at a much higher level than either of them did...and at a much younger age. The jury's still out on Guzman. I do think he's going to be successful. It's not fair to put pitchers in the same category as position players though. Pitchers are much more likely to get injurred. No, Jennings is not worth Pie. Heck, I think Marshall in two years will be as good as Jennings. But maybe that's just me.
  21. Don't forget O'Malley. I really think this kid could be good. He needs another year or two to get seasoned. Oh I have to disagree on O'Malley. I like O'Malley a lot, but I don't see much potential for a successful big league career. The poster did forget about Marshall though. Marshall has a lot more potential than O'Malley and will likely have a somewhat successful career.
  22. We're defineately not decided on that. All four have talent and will merit more looks. I think Guzman is going to be an excellent ML starting pitcher. He has the most potential as a starter. Mateo and Ryu could be decent #4 pitchers. I see Marmol as a back of the bullpen kinda guy.
  23. Post ASB '06: Murton .319 / .390 / .522 (9 HR) Lee .311 / .358 / .512 (11 HR)
