  1. I'll be really surprised if that happens. Safe bet is on Wuertz to make the team.
  2. Days w/out ronny make me sad! At least we have Murton to root for!
  3. Oh, I think Wuertz will make it. He had such a good year last year, they will give him the benefit of the doubt. Apparently the Arizona air isn't good for sliders anyway. I think the longman job will come down to Wellemeyer vs. Ryu. So it'd be: Dempster / Eyre / Howry / Williamson / Ohman / Wuertz / and Wellemyer or Ryu
  4. I think San Diego is really going to miss Otsuka.
  5. Kinda funny how Pagan had the home run today (his third), while Restovich swiped a bag. What I don't like about Restovich is his strike out numbers this Spring. Normally I don't care too much about k's, but a pinch hitter needs to be able to make contact (might need a bunt, a sac fly, etc.). Pagan has shown a better ability to make contact this spring. I think his speed could really be an asset late in games as well (pinch runner, etc).
  6. You could probably add Jones as well. Hopefully the Cubs won't be in the position to sell though...
  7. Marshall pitched 3 innings, 1 BB, 2 H, 2 SO, 0 R He's yet to give up a run this Spring. And one of those 2 hits was a bunt!
  8. It sounds like it. There were reports that some in the organization had Marshall ahead of Hill even before ST. Of course Hill has been pretty mediocre so far while Marshall's stock is rising. With Hill, it's all about command. After walks in his first inning, he had a very good outing yesterday. 3 IP, 0 hits, 5 k's. Apparently he controlled his curve and fastball better. If he does that as the Spring goes on, it's going to be an interesting race b/n Guzman, Marshall, and Hill (and maybe even Ryu, who has been pitching well).
  9. Make that 4 k's in 2 innings for Hill. Curve must be working today! Looking forward to Marshall's start tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Bruce.
  10. Seconded. I've actually shown it to several co-workers. Or photos posted could actually be related to baseball, instead of sex.
  11. Thanks. and 2 k's in the 4th...again, not sure about the 5th.
  12. did you say something? I was...er..distracted by a photo =P~ I don't mean to be hatin' Goony....but is the photo necessary? It means I can only skim your posts if I'm reading the board while I work. I don't want somebody to walk by my computer with a photo like that on the screen.
  13. I expect that Barrett, Murton, and Hairston/Walker will do better than the posted OBP's. (Of course, Barrett's will be mitigated somewhat by Blanco's.) I think Murton is going to do better than we expect.
  14. Know when Marshall and Ryu are slated to go again?
  15. Guzman for the day: 3 IP, 1 hit, 2 ER, 3BB, 1 k 6 ground outs 2 fly outs 1 strike out A lot of ground balls. All the walks and the hit were in the first inning. Only hit was a double with the bases loaded. Innings 2 and 3: 0 hits, 0 walks, 0 runs, 1 k, 4 ground outs, 1 k.
  16. Dude, it's ST and be's batted all over the place. I doubt you can read into it at all. AFterall we have 4 2nd basemen playing in the same line up today, and I doubt that's an indication of what's to come. Four? Hairston, Perez, Walker & Cedeno are all in the starting lineup today. Has Cedeno ever played second?
  17. Eagerly awaiting reports about Guzman... Is there a radar gun there?
  18. I'm probably in the minority, but i wish that Congress had been involved earlier. Steroids have severely tarnished the game. Unfort. owners weren't doing anything about, b/c they thought home runs brought people to the ballpark (and they probably did in '98 at least). It wasn't in the interest of the owners to immediately implement a strong testing policy. And Selig wasn't going to do it without the backing of the owners. He lacks courage. So it was about time that Congress force them to act. My only complaint is that Congress should have acted sooner, they should have called Bonds and Clemens to the stand, and they should have called some of the owners to testify. Ask them why they let it going on so long.
  19. Oh no no no. I'm still very excited about opening day. There's a lot to root for. Like my boy Matt Murton!!! Or big Z. Or Ronny sticking at short. If proven necessary, it'll even be fun to see the competition between Hill, Guzman, Marshall, and Ryu.
  20. I've never thought of Sammy as a discrete person either. But, hey, I have to hand it to him. His discretion seems to have surpassed that of many...
  21. Oh, it's nothing to do with jealousy. And it certainly has nothing to do with him being an Astro. I'd take Oswalt on my team in a heartbeat, and I'm excited that Willer is a Cub. I honestly couldn't care less about the Stros. The Mets and the Cards on the other hand... I'm just under the assumption that Clemens, like Bonds, has been so successful this late into his career b/c of steroids. Clemens always comes across to me as highly arrogant, self-possessed, and a mean-spirited person. For this reason, I'd rather see him sign elsewhere over the Cubs, even if its with the Astros. When the Cubs win, I want them to be a team that I actually want to win.
  22. just like the astros did last year No, like the White Sox. I think Rusch second, and Maddux third is simply a nod to Greg--and not a upgrading at Rusch to the #2. It's an honor to have the start for the opening day at Wrigley.
  23. haha i know i couldn't. But honestly i'm torn about whether I'd want Clemens on the Cubs. Oh I know he could really help the team. I've never admired him though. Perhaps it's unjustified, but he's always been one of my least favorite players. I view him kind of like I view Barry. Am I foolish for seeing it that way?
  24. Michael is struggling with control so far this Spring. I still hope he makes the team, but he needs to find his control by the end of S.T.
  25. I object! I'm the Ryan!  He's the Riot!
