  1. Presumeably, Walker would play 2nd for Texas.
  2. With the Howry signing, aren't there now 42 men on the 40-man roster? If Furcal is signed before the Winter Meetings, won't that be 43? Mabry would be 44! At least one trade has to be on the immimant horizon.
  3. Don't forget about Adam Dunn! My first choice is Abreu, but Dunn is a close second. Provided that Furcal is signed, I also like the Walker for Bradley trade.
  4. If I'm Hendry, I target Abreu and Zito. USA Today has an article which notes the availibility of each. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/bbw/columnist/nightengale/2005-11-16-majors_x.htm Here are my trades: CUBS trade: Greg Maddux, Rich Hill, and Ryan Harvey PHILLIES trade: Bobby Abreu Cubs take on the full amount owed Abreu in 2006 (13 mil) and 2007 (15 mil), but shed the 9 mil owed to Maddux. The Phillies shed $19 million over two years in this deal. They pickup a pitcher for this year, a pitcher for tomorrow with a high upside, and an outfielder with a high upside to eventually replace Abreu. CUBS trade: Ricky Nolasco, Robert Novoa, and Sergio Mitre A’S trade: Barry Zito Cubs are responsible for all of Zito’s salary. A's pick up a very good bullpen arm, a starter that is a solid bet to reach his potential and is close to the majors, and a sinkerballer who just needs consistency. After I sign Furcal and Milton Bradley I'm left with my team: 1. Prior 2. Zambrano 3. Zito 4. Wood 5. Williams Rusch (Guzman, Pinto, Marshall, Ryu, Marmol will be in the upper minors.) Dempster Howry Erye Williamson Ohman Wuertz SS Furcal LF Murton 1B Lee RF Abreu 3B Ramirez CF Bradley C Barrett 2B Cedeno Blanco Perez Hairston ?? ??
  5. I agree with you. Nothing about Hendry's past dealings gives me any indication that he would deal Pie this offseason. It would be very out of character for him. He has plenty of other trade chips to work with. Pie reminds me of the position player version of Dontrelle Willis. Fun, hardworking, and damn good. Oh, how I wish we had Willis back...
  6. Impatience is not a reason to make a mistake so large as to trade away Pie for the likes of a Juan Pierre. Such shortsightedness would indicate to me that the Cubs are decades away from winning the world series. It would show that we do not have the management capable of putting together a contender. Thankfully I'm confident that Jim Hendry would never be so foolish. As for the ankle injury...no one talks about it because it really wasn't all that serious. He didn't break it. Pie will be fine this year. I too am impatient...we all are! But Pie is not far off at all. Make trades to try to win now, but keep Pie out of them.
  7. Don’t take my word for that Pie is going to be a star. Take Bobby Dickerson’s word for it. Dickerson was Pie’s manager this year in Double A: On Pie’s Attitude: On Pie’s Defense: On Pie’s Power Potential: On his Ability to Win: And, of course, the DiamondJaxx went to the championship this year. I believe that they would have won it had Pie been able to play. I repeat that Pie is going to be a star. Plus, he's a fun-loving, exciting young man. He's exactly the kind of player that wee all love to root for. He plays with heart, effort, and joy. So enough with the Pie for Pierre suggestions. It would be nothing short than a collossal mistake to make such a move. And while I am all for targetting Dunn or Abreu, I would do everything I could to get one of them without trading Felix.
  8. Where did you hear that Cincy wanted Pie at the deadline? Harvey, Hill, and Williams and you have yourselves a deal. I'd even throw in Nolasco. Do everything in your power not to trade Pie.
  9. Pie is going to be a star. From all accounts about his work ethic, his positive infectious attitude, and his sheer athletic ability, there is a little doubt in my mind that Pie is going to be a regular all star. While I respect Pierre's ability, Felix Pie will soon be the player that Pierre wishes he could become. At age 20, Pie is already a superior defensive centerfielder. He has a cannon for an arm, outstanding range, leaping ability, etc. He is already a better defender than Corey Patterson, and Pierre doesn't touch Pie in the field. Pie should win multiple gold gloves. Pie has a very high offensive upside, which I believe he will reach. For really the first time, he was showing his power potential at Double A last year. He should reguarly hit 25 home runs a year or more in the majors. There is no way that I would include Pie in a deal for Pierre unless Cabrera was coming back. I think we're all a little jaded by the Corey Patterson journey. But Pie is a completely different person than Corey. There's no reason to believe that he will suffer the same fate. If Pie had not been injurred last June, no one would be mentioning trading him. He was having a simply outstanding year.
  10. Hendry loves these types of players. Rich Hill is the archtype, and he might turn into a good #3 starter. If Guzman can reach his potential, imagine having a Zambrano - Prior - Guzman rotation in a playoff series! I'm not sure how you can leave Kerry Wood off of that list.
  11. Two horses cut it for the D-backs. But the D-backs had two strong horses. The Red Sox, on the other hand, had one injured horse and four ponies. Clement, Wells, Arroyo, Wakefield are all #3 starters at best. Schilling was injured. The Red Sox lacked a number starter this year. I believe that was their downfall.
  12. That's a solid point, Tim. But sometimes teams have to be willing to have a bad contract for a year or two in order to have the services of a player before the team's window of opportunity closes. Take the Cubs this offseason. Many of us (including you) want the Cubs to sign Giles even if it means the Cubs give him 4 years. He's unlikely to earn his money the fourth year of that contract, but we'd be willing to give him the money anyway. We'd be willing to do so b/c we recognize that the Cubs time should be now. With Wood, Prior, Zambrano, Lee, Aramis, the Cubs have the pieces to contend for a World Series title in the next two years. We need Giles to do that. I think that Theo made a mistate by not resigning Pedro. He spent a lot of money on Clement, who just is nowhere nearly as good as Pedro. Yes, Pedro might not be worth the money by the 4th year of the contact. But the Red Sox would have won the division this year with Martinez and they may still be playing in the playoffs. This should have been the Red Sox time to win before players like Manny, Damon, etc move on...
  13. He's still in my Top 10, although now towards the bottom of it. If he repeats Daytona next season, he'd still be age appropriate and would be fast-tracked if he shows any sign of improvements. Some top prospects struggle; it's a fact of life. Hopefully he can get himself together next season and post good numbers in Daytona and/or West Tenn. I hope that he's promoted. The best thing for him imo is to be out of the FSL league and working with Von Joshua.
  14. That's awesome....but isn't his name Jermaine?
  15. Geat post on Guzman, jaxxradio. Question: Does anyone know whether Angel has to stick with the Cubs right out of Spring Training? Do the Cubs have another option remaining with Guzman or no? If he does have to stick, how do the Cubs handle him? With Wood, Prior, Zambrano, and Maddux already slated for the rotation--coupled with rumors that the Cubs want to add another starter--it would be surprising if he were given one of the starters spot out of spring training without having any big league experience, especially with Williams and Hill also in the mix (even if his stuff is better than theirs, which it is). And yet, his long term potential is certainly best as a starter. What if he dominates in Spring Training? (as he did two years ago)
  16. I don't think they'd want an over the hill pitcher for $9 million a year. I'm sure they would like him if they didn't have to pay him 9 million. Maddux at half of that salary would look pretty decent to Boston I'm sure. However, would be gaining big salary relief by trading Manny, which could allow them to sign...say....Giles. So for the same price of Manny, they could have Maddux, Giles, and two decent Cubs prospects. Wouldn't be too bad of a deal for them! (especially since Manny wants out anyways)
  17. Also, does anyone know how well M Giles and Furcal get along? What about Brian and Marcus? Are they close? Have they ever made statements about wanting to play on the same team?
  18. Could Maddux be included in a deal for Manny? With all the problems Boston had to their rotation this year, it seems to me they may have interest in Greg.
  19. Not to nitpick, but according to your chart, he started 24 games in 02. Your point still stands though. Yet, I disagree. I'd give him next year to try to be a starter. He's still very young, and according to those who have seen him, his stuff has not suffered despite the injuries.
  20. Mitre: GB/FB: 2.97!! OPS against: 0.694 Go Sergio!
  21. Oh, he's healthy now. The article is referring to last Spring Training.
  22. But he's so young. I'm thinking the man can add velocity yet...
  23. Harvey has superstar potential, but has a LONG way to go to get there. Completely forgot about Harvey. Call me optimistic, but I'd add Guzman to the list of Pie, Pawelek, and Harvey. He's still young enough to develop into a star if the healthy issues are behind him. And I do believe the following, while not superstars, could each be an allstar at some point in their career if they were to fully reach their potential: Pinto, Hill, Gallagher, Dopirak, Murton, EPatt...
  24. Is that you Tim? Nope, I'd be Tim from NSBB if I submitted a question. I figured since I remember you liking Pie. I'm much more confident than Aaron Fitt and the questioner about Pie reaching his potential. Everything we've read about Pie praises his work ethic over and over. He is said to be an infectious joyful person to be around who gives it his all. Further, he has made great improvements every year. As long as he keeps improving and he keeps the positive attitude, I don't see Pie failing.
  25. Few comments: 1. Murton ALREADY is a 15-20 homer guy. I mean, the man had 7 in under 140 at bats in the show! I think he could develop into a 30 homer guy. 2. I see Hill's best as a #2. If Zito can do it... They call his stuff "electric" but then say his ceiling is a #3. This doesn't make sense to me. #3's tend to have good stuff, but not "electric" stuff. While control issues can prevent #3's who indeed have electric stuff from being an ace....they still have higher ceiling than a #3... 3. I still like Marshall above Hill, Pinto, and Nolasco. He has the velocity of Pinto, but the control of Nolasco...and the handedness of Pinto and Hill (a lefty). I'd guess the injuries kept him off the list... 4. I really hope that Pinto can gain better control. He showed what he could do in his start in late spring training last year.
