  1. Boy this is frustrating. It goes back to the manager for me. Sure, the players need to play more heads up baseball, but it's the managers job to get them mentally prepared to do so. This inning the team looks like their heads are not in the game. It's been the case all year.
  2. Any Cubs minor leaguers you particularly enjoy working with?
  3. Hey Andy, thanks for taking our questions! If you could have the stuff of any the Cubs pitchers that have been at West Tennessee this year, who would it be? What if you could have a pitch from one pitcher, and a different pitch from another pitcher? (i.e. Hill's curve, someone else fastball)...
  4. Nice job Sing!!! Keep proving the naysayers wrong! mwuhahahaha
  5. Yeah it is interesting that neither Patterson or Greenburg were brought up to take Hairston's spot.
  6. GOOOO CUBBIES!!!!! Our Wildcard rampage begins tonight baby!
  7. Good call on Mitre's games, Brian. I def. second that! I was on the edge of my seat both games cheering for Sergio. He's one of my favorite Cubs .
  8. Ha, I love the slap threat! I laughed my ass off when I read about that.
  9. Corey's amazing catch to rob a home run. I saved it on my computer and still watch it from time to time. Simply amazing. Oh, and any hit by DLee.
  10. This was in Wed's Trib....Sorry Baker said left fielder Matt Murton would sit against Mets left-hander Tom Glavine on Friday, but will play Saturday against lefty Kazuhisa Ishii. Baker said he would try to get Murton at-bats, but he doesn't plan to platoon him with Matt Lawton, as he did with Todd Hollandsworth. "We're trying to get to the playoffs, so we're going to play whoever I think the best lineup is against that particular guy," he said. Yeah, but that was before Hairston was injured, so Baker was choosing b/n Murton and and Lawton. With Hairston down, both can play.
  11. I'd fire Dusty and Gary Matthews, Jr.... and call up Dickerson and Von Joshua to take their place. Perfect for next year's team that has on it: Hill, Pie, Murton, Cedeno, Fontenot, etc...
  12. Congrats, Adam, on such a successful season! We're all rooting for you. Question: When you first found out that you were going "to the show," who did you call first and tell the information? Do you have any personal goals as to when you would like to stick in the Majors by? What area of your game do you have to work the hardest in? What part of your game do you take the most pride in? Thanks for your answers and best of luck in the future! We all think you'll be a Cub for good by next Spring at the latest... Ryan
  13. Dwaine, you have a lot of fans here at NSBB. Congrats on having such a successful year so far. Gotta love that OBP! Question: Does the organization regularly communicate with players regarding their progress? That is, does someone in the organization sit you down ever and talk about how they see you progressing, what they want you to work on, and how they see you making an impact on the club? Do you hear from members of the Cubs organization higher up letting you know they are watching your progress, and to give you encouragement? Do you have any personal goals as far as when you would like to make the majors? How would you compare your style of game to Juan Pierre's? Thanks for your answers, and we're all rooting for you! Ryan
  14. Casey, many congrats on being named by Baseball America as the best defensive thirdbaseman in the Southern League! Is defense a part of the game that you really pride yourself on? What would say is your greatest strength as a player? What do you think you most need to work on yet to be a successful major leaguer? You're having a terrific year, Casey, and we're all noticing here at NSBB. Keep up the great work! Ryan
  15. I had not heard that McGehee's defense was thought of so highly. Way to go Casey! He's a very intruiging prospect in my book. He has been hitting a ton of doubles and he hits for high average. Since they tried him catcher as well, it indicates to me that the organization must think highly of his baseball IQ as well.
  16. Wuertz has pitched well lately. He even did a fine job in the 9th last night. He came in needing a strike out, and he got it. Wasn't his fault the game ended how it did. Remlinger should be released before Wuertz gets sent down. I'd send down Novoa before Wuertz as well. While Novoa in the long term has a higher upside than Wuertz, Novoa needs to work on control and on making his breaking ball more consistent. So I don't think Wuertz should be send down.
  17. Lee, Ramirez, Barrett, Wood were all given at least 3 years by Hendry. I can see him offering 3 or 4 years to a player, but the player will be entering his prime, not past it.
  18. i cant see murton ever hitting for enough power to be compared to giles at all I think everyone underestimates Murton's power potential. From reports, he puts on a show at times in batting practice. I fully expect Murton to develop into a decent power hitter. While not 40 dingers, 25-30 isn't out of the question.
  19. If that is the case, that would be outstanding news. With Brownlie's knowledge of pitching, if his velocity comes back, he could be a top of the rotation starter. That's a huge IF though. Where did your report come from?
  20. I'm looking for another good start for Welly. If he keeps pitching well in the rotation for Iowa this year, he may get a chance to compete for a starter's spot on the Cubs in Spring Training next year. After all, Hendy said this year he sees Welly as a starter down the road. I also believe that Welly could still help the Cubs out of the pen this year.
  21. When the Cubs have so many good young/prospect outfielders (Patterson, Pie, Murton, Sing), I don't see the wisdom of signing a player of Giles age to a contract of more than one or two years.
  22. I really think Remlinger needs to be cut this week. He just isn't cutting it this year. His poor outing last night just solidifies that I think. I'd send Mitre down to make room for the other pitcher. Cedeno for Nomar makes sense. The other move I would consider is calling up Wellemeyer. He's been pitching very well lately. I'd like to see Novoa work on his breaking ball down in Triple A. I think Novoa has the potential to be a very good bullpen guy, but he lacks consistency yet, particularly on his breaking ball. Wood for Mitre Williamson for Remlinger Nomar for Cedeno I'd probably also DL Hairston and bring Patterson back up. No more Macias in center. I miss Corey's D.
  23. Coach, You have a large fanbase here! Glendon Rusch not withstanding, the Cubs have been devoid of a good lefty starter at least the last decade. You've had three good lefty prospects at West Tennesse at various points this year: Hill, Pinto, and Marshall. See any of them sticking the Cubs rotation for a few years? Do you keep in touch with players after they reach the Big Leagues? Do they ever seek you out for advice later on down the road? Finally, what's it like working with Von Joshua? Like you, he has a lot of support here for his work. Congrats on your great year. Ryan
  24. Hi Brandon! We're all completely behind you here at NSBB.... Questions about pitch selection: What is your favorite pitch and pitch location to hit? What pitch/location gives you the most problems? Who were your baseball heros growing up? Thanks! And can't wait to see you in Wrigley.
  25. My top position prospects btw: 1. Pie -- no brainer. amazing defensive skills. fast fast fast. always wins. exceptional makeup and attitude. 2. Harvey -- tremendous upside. Abreu-like speed and power. Plus his name is Ryan! ; ) 3. Murton -- I think his power is going to develop. Will be a very professional hitter. Smart ballplayer. A pleasure to watch. 4. Cedeno -- this high because he plays shortstop. Should hit for decent average. Very strong arm. Good hands and range. 5. Sing -- Simply great power numbers and patience. Do I know if he can hit a breaking ball? Nope. However, as a cubs fan I like to root for the underdogs. Dubois didnt' work out, so now Sing's my hope. Honorable mention: Patterson, Dopirak, Fontenot, Moore, Theriot
