  1. Should get a good pick at 13. Only the Dodgers, Rangers, and Orioles are big spenders ahead of the Cubs. Gives the Cubs a great shot to pick a player who would have gone sooner but for financial considerations.
  2. MICAH HOFFPAUIR kids. Red rover, red rover let Micah come over!
  3. ha ha I like it. If I were Hill, I'd be somewhat frustrated about Marshall and Guzman starting the next two nights. Not frustrated at either to them to be clear, but at myself for not really nailing the opportunity when I had it. I'd be so fucussed and ready to impress, just in case one of Marshall or Guzman stumble...or Rusch continues to struggle and Wood/Prior aren't back yet. Now is the time for Hill to impress before all the doors of opportunity close with the Cubs for him.
  4. Why just a backup? His bat shows more promise than that. Or do you mean a backup to Barrett until his contract is up...then becoming a starter?
  5. Fuld started slow last year, then tore it up the rest of the summer. Looks like he's doing the same this year....only his slow start was shorter than last years. I like it!
  6. haha good post.
  7. Ryne Sandberg was also a throw in. Well played!
  8. Good question, Craig. I remember that the reports from this spring training were very positive about his defense, which really made me start to get excited about him as a prospect. The man can hit, that's for sure.
  9. Nice game by Shaver! Way to bounce back. What are the scouting reports on Shaver? How hard does he throw? Is he a soft tossing lefty like Piggy or Connolly, or is his stuff better than that? Buck Coats is hitting well. He could be a better utility guy than Bynum soon.
  10. And according to the chart, we NEVER came back last year after 7 innings when trailing by 3 runs or more.... Of course, we never faced such a depleted team last year either...
  11. At Wrigley the Cubs haven't done much against the D-Train. He's 2-0 with a 1.01 ERA in his career. Frankly, I don't care if they beat him or their bullpen. Just win. I love the Cubs The key tomorrow will be patience. We need to get DTrain's pitch count up so that we can get to the bullpen. As we saw today, the bullpen of the Marlins is beatable. And as much as I like Nolasco and Welly, they should be hittable as well.
  12. Or when the pitching staff is reduced to 11. Or when Hendry realizes that neigher Bynum or Restovich can hit.
  13. How many assists is that for Pie this year? It's seems its at least 3 or 4 so far. Very impressive.
  14. Keep hitting like that and we'll all love you Jacques. We promise!
  15. Fixed.
  16. Ummm we're 10-7 so far. Wood and Prior aren't back yet. Lee's out. Relax, it's a loooooooooooonnnnnnnnnng season.
  17. Boy nothing is going the cubs way tonight.
  18. He's struck out NINE!!!!!!! It's not about the strikeout. He's pitched poorly overall. I don't buy that this was a "quality start." He made some poor decisions on the mound and allowed himself to be beaten by their few good hitters (namely Cabrera). Well then maybe you should go and redefine QS. Because he's had one. I didn't say he didn't make mistakes, but he's got a few. Our offense needs to stop swinging at 1st pitches. No, you said he struck out 9 as if that was a sign of quality. My point was that he made key mistakes that led to runs scored. he's struck out 10 and given up 3 ER. Quality start whether you buy it or not. It doesn't matter what we call it, walking guys and giving up homeruns and doubles, right afterwards, isn't smart pitching. It's like he looses his concentration on the mound. Maybe he didn't lose his concentration. Maybe he was beat by a good hitter. How bout 7 innings, 3 ER, 11 ks? Still a "poor" outing? Perfect? No. Poor? Of course not. He's admitted to losing concentration on the mound a few times already this year. Also, once a walk is issued, it would be nice if he would work hard on getting the next man. If these were better hitters this game would have been busted open. Remember, he walked a guy on 5 (?) pitched after giving up the 3rd run but was able to rally and Rothschild had to run out to help him refocus. If he were pitching against a better team this could easily be a larger deficit. this is all complete speculation on your part. If if if if....i doubt other teams would have him hit hard with the stuff he had tonight. take out cabrera, one of the top 5 offensive players in the game over the last 3 yrs, and this is a shutout.
  19. If the Cubs lose tonight, it is entirely the fault of the offense. Vargas is not that good of a pitcher.

It's a quality start. 6 innings, 3 earned runs. I'll take it everytime. So you're okay with Z consistetnly with a 4.5 ERA? I'm not, not from him. Obviously I'd like him to do better, but it is not "poor."
