    The great thing about statistics is that they allow us to see trends. The sad thing about people using statistics, is when they assume those trends apply to everyone equally.

    So I haven't been able to watch games this week, but I was obviously disappointed. In the other Arrieta losses recently, the umps were squeezing him, and letting the other pitcher throw off the plate for strikes. Did that happen today? I saw a half inning where Wacha was getting everything near the plate as a strike, but that was early in the game. Did Arrieta get the same calls? Seems he threw a lot of pitches.

    Honestly, I don't care if we win or lose this game at this point, something has GOT to be done about umps being this inconsistent in their strike zone. It also seems completely unreal that this would happen to Arrieta unless it was done on purpose.

    I'm not saying they won't win, but if the strike zone stays as it has been, they won't. Also, Jake is throwing a lot more stuff down the middle now as an adjustment to the zone, that can't work for long... I mean, it's still got crazy movement on it, so who knows... Edit: You're kidding me...

    I mean, you can't win when your ace pitcher can't get a single call on a corner pitch, and the other guy gets 4 inches off the plate in every direction.

    New strategy against Arrieta: Don't swing at anything, the ump will probably drive up his pitch count and he'll have to leave after 5 or 6.

    No, and it made Fowler go out there to try and cover the outside as well, so it cost 2 strikes. I cannot stand the fact that umps squeeze Arrieta and let a guy who has been all over the place end an inning like that.
