The end of the game for the red sox vs. yankees is the absolute perfect example of the need for robot umps. The ump made a terrible call the batter before Ortiz, then doubled down on an even worse call on that 3-1 pitch. Okay, you make one bad call, whatever... two bad calls... in that situation, maybe you were fooled... but that last call, was just absurdly stupid, and entirely the Ump getting caught up in the moment and not wanting to get shown up. The whole tossing guys out of the game for arguing balls and strikes when they aren't arguing or they are angry in the dugout is also just horribly wrong. Lester getting thrown out yesterday was absurd as well. If a guy gets in your face, toss them... but you can't toss them for asking questions or grumbling in the dugout. Sure, the umps do ok 95% of the time... maybe even more... but something has to change when they are letting their emotions decide games.
