  1. Well, he's earned a week of starts...
  2. so... I'm not sure which to think... that I'm glad we can expect some production at the bottom of the order... or that I'm upset they're at the bottom of the order instead of the ever present Perez...
  3. I don't know why anyone's surprised. If anything, it's suprising this is his first start!
  4. Ease off on Neifi. The guy plays sound defense and comes up with some hits. Yes, even I, one of the greatest Neifi haters around, recognize that it's not really his fault... he's just overused by our dear manager...
  5. It just seems so early to have given up already :) Don't know who's going to "save" us this year, though... I guess it's supposed to be Hendry...
  6. It's good to see Dusty hasn't actually changed. I was worried when he put Pagan in ...
  7. Don't look now, Dusty might be trying to keep his job! If Jaque comes out in the 5th inning of every game we might have a shot... ;)
  8. ARGH, I got XM radio because I can't listen to streaming audio at work any more.. and I can't get a signal at my desk at work!!!! guess I'll be hanging out here a lot...
  9. This was simply a VERY badly thought out PR move. You can tell because of the whole discussion about giving the proceeds to charity. Bonds wanted to shift negative thinking AWAY from himself, onto the nasty reporters who are always lying about him, and make himself look good for giving all that "nasty profit" away to kids charities... He won't win, he couldn't win a libel case, the only way he could have done anything legally that would have looked good is to sue them FOR LIBEL. IT doesn't matter if he won or not, he could even drop the case... but that's the only way that makes it look like he still claimed the information was false. This way, he just looks stupid.
  10. Oh, I don't know... Baker probably does recognize it as stupid... the thing is... he doesn't care... He likes Neifi and wants to play him. How good he is doesn't really matter to Baker...
  11. but dude, the guy's SAVED us this year!
  12. but neifi has to get enough plate appearances so that it doesn't look completely like he was playing him enough for his incentives to kick in...
  13. I'm not sure what the incentives are, but I think managerial incompetence has more to do with Neifi being at the top of the order than an extra PA or so to get him incentives. Well, yeah, but the incentives would actually provide a reason he would do that... It would also show how much he actually values putting the best team out there... if he cares more for his buddy's incentives to kick in more... Dusty has insinuated in the past that he makes playing time decisions at least partially based upon how much the player makes. If memory serves, Perez's incentives were all PA related, and he needed to get something like 400 PA to get them all. Well, that just makes me ill... If I cared enough right now about the Cubs I'd figure out exactly how many incentives Dusty helped the Cubs get this year, and point out exactly how much money his managing us into 5th place was costing the Trib... maybe that would open someones eyes...
  14. I'm not sure what the incentives are, but I think managerial incompetence has more to do with Neifi being at the top of the order than an extra PA or so to get him incentives. 15. I don't know if it would help... he'd still place all the blame on the players... it would come down to who he liked best... And he still wouldn't know how to either fill out the lineup card or manage his starting pitchers or bullpen... He's just horribly horribly bad at in game management.
  16. What were Neifi's incentives? Was one of them plate appearances? Is that why he's started so much at the top of the order? To get him the odd extra PA?
  17. That's a disturbing thought... how many of the veterans are still playing for incentives? Is that why they're playing over the kids? No wonder players like Dusty...
  18. I don't think this is entirely it. MacPhail can tell Hendry to get rid of BAker. Obviously, that's not a priority, even though it's obvious Baker is a real problem... So even getting rid of Hendry might lead to keeping Baker around... I don't know what to think any more...
  19. I mean, since it's obvious they're going to stick with him as incomprehensible as that is... what's teh minimum it's going to take to get him out of town? Will he have to start badmouthing the organization? Will both MacPhail and Hendry have to go first? Obviously a losing season won't do it... What friends does he have at the Trib that will have to be let go? I would have been able to ignore next season, but with talks of extensions and everything, I just want to know what's going to have to happen so that he will either be fired or leave on his own... I can't believe this organization has ruined the chance this team has presented...
  20. the only POSSIBLE good I can see come out of this is that fans really do stop going to games... As long as the seats are full, the Trib apparently thinks they can do no wrong... It seems their currently buying into the "you can't build by changing all the time" philosophy... and unfortunately picked the wrong time to do that. And of course, it's never Dusty's fault, they always miss some sign...
  21. maybe this is a "vote of confidence?" i'm hereby rootingfor the Cubs to lose every single game until Dusty is fired... if that's for 3 more years, it will be painful There's no way dusty takes this team to the WS. If this is true, then I may be convinced that the Cubs will not win while owned by the tribune... which may be forever
  22. True, except we play the stros 9 more times. IF we win the next two (against Petitte and Oswalt - slim chance) we'll be 5 and half out. If we can get to 4 games out by september we have a shot. If we lose this series we are done. We could still be 6.5 out if Washington wins twice. Or, we could be 6 out if Philly wins twice. If you only look at the Astros, yes, we still have a shot. The problem is the other 5 teams. It's hard enough to pass one team, let alone 2. 5 is stretching the realm of possability... If we were playihng good baseball, I'm right there with you. But we're not, and we pretty much have a forfeit lineup out there every 3 or 4 games...
  23. hate to break it to you, but 7.5 games out with 6 teams in front is pretty much done.
